The Paris Fire Brigade (BSPP) is an elite unit founded in 1811 by Napoleon Bonaparte. Today considered to be the leading fire brigade in Europe and the 3rd largest in the world, this unit of nearly 8,500 men and women is responsible for the safety and protection of more than 7 million people in Paris and the surrounding area. The BSPP is involved in a wide range of situations, from fires to emergency rescue and chemical and nuclear risk management. Its speed of response and expertise are recognised worldwide. In addition to rescue missions, it plays a crucial role in prevention and raising awareness of hazards.
