The pitch

As part of its "Change for the Better" mission, the watch brand Oris has joined forces with the Carl Brashear Foundation in 2015 to help give hope to many people. Carl Brashear is one of the 20th century's most determined figures to triumph over adversity. He overcame many challenges because of his origins and then his disability and became the first African-American diver in the history of the U.S. Navy and the first diver to undergo amputation. In 2021, Oris presents the third watch produced in partnership with the Carl Brashear Foundation and the first powered by the Oris 401 caliber, a highly resistant self-winding movement with a power reserve of five days... 

The Oris 401 caliber

At the heart of this Oris Carl Brashear limited edition of 2000 pieces worldwide is the new Oris manufacture 401 caliber. Entirely designed in-house by Oris watchmakers, it is inspired by the revolutionary Calibre 400 launched in October 2020. More accurate than a chronometer (from - 3 to + 5 seconds per day), this Oris movement solves many of the problems of today's mechanical movements: high level of antimagnetism, 120 hour (five day) power reserve and a 10 year extended warranty. This Oris 401 caliber differs from the Oris 400 caliber by powering a small second at 6 o'clock.

A design that lives up to its name

This Oris Carl Brashear 40mm diameter watch has a multi-piece bronze case and a unidirectional rotating bronze bezel with a raised diving scale. This material was chosen to symbolise the suits Carl wore during his career as a Master Diver in the U.S. Navy, but also as a metal that has its own story to tell. Bronze is a natural material that takes on a patina by reacting with the oxygen in the air and the moisture in the skin. Over time, its hue will become unique, reflecting your life and the imprint you leave behind. Its deep blue dial is inspired by naval tradition and its parachute strap strap with a copper buckle is exclusively hand-made to measure by the Dutch strap manufacturer Erika's Originals.
