A myth

The Speedmaster Moonwatch is a watchmaking myth in its own right, with its last face-lift in 1996. Designed in 1957 by Claude Baillod and Pierre Moinat, the Moonwatch has evolved but very little after the 4th generation of 1964 (Ref. 105.012). To make evolve such an icon is not an easy thing but Omega has brilliantly taken up this challenge by improving everything that could be improved without denaturing this great classic. The OMEGA Co-Axial Master Chronometer calibre 3861

The 3861 powers all new versions of the Moonwatch without distinction. This movement is not new per se, but until now we've only seen it in action in highly prized limited editions (Apollo XI and Silver Snoopy Award).This new 3861 chronograph movement is partly based on the calibre 1861 even though it has no less than 50% new components. It has a Co-Axial escapement, which reduces friction and increases its precision, which is between 0 and +5 seconds per day on average. Officially certified by the METAS, this calibre is capable of withstanding magnetic fields of over 15,000 gauss and has a power reserve of 50 hours. As for decorations, the Omega calibre 3861 of this Speedmaster Moonwatch is rhodium-plated and its bridges are decorated with Côtes de Genève.
