The GMT complication is the most emblematic of the Grand Seiko complications. In addition to its GMT function, this SBGJ237G is water resistant to 200 m and has a beautiful sapphire crystal bezel that shelters a luminous 24-hour scale. At night - from 5:30 pm to 6:30 am - the Lumibrite numerals, Seiko's luminescent paint, illuminate on the blue half of the bezel. During the day, it is the full white background of the other half that lights up. This beauty uses the Hi-Beat 9S86 quick-setting caliber for local time and a 24-hour rotating bezel. It can therefore quickly indicate the time in three time zones: the local time, the time indicated by the GMT hand via the 24-hour scale fixed on the flange and the time that can be calculated by turning the blue and white external bezel (by the GMT hand).

Verdict

This SBGJ237G is one of the most beautiful recent models of Grand Seiko. The combination of blue and white colors works extremely well and its water resistance is more than enough for a watch that is not a diver's watch. Its diameter of 44.2 mm and thickness of 14.4 mm requires a sturdy wrist, but the design of its case and lugs make it a watch that is pleasant to wear every day.
