Jaeger-LeCoultre Atmos clock brass gold-plated 1960s
The Presidents' Clock is a unique object that will bring your interior to life in the most horological way...
A bit of history
Developed in 1928 by the Swiss Jean-Léon Reutter, the Atmos clock is like no other. Its operation is based on a revolutionary movement process, seemingly perpetual, which converts variations in temperature and atmospheric pressure into energy that sets the watch mechanism in motion. A change in temperature of one degree is enough to ensure that the clock will run for approximately two days. The Atmos is expected to last an estimated 600 years. It is the official gift of the Swiss confederation and that is why it stands in the world's most prestigious offices and was given to Winston Churchill, JFK, Pope John Paul II ...
What you need to know
This copy dates from the end of the 1960s, it has been entirely dismantled and reassembled by our watchmakers and its decoration has been completely redone. The brass has been coated with fine gold by electrolysis to restore its lustre. It will be delivered to you in perfect working order in its Atmos case, but we were unable to get our hands on its original papers.
As if by magic
A one-degree change in room temperature provides the Atmos with energy for 48 hours of operation.
Maintenance (gas refill) is required approximately every 50 years.
60 million Atmos consume as much energy as a 15-watt light bulb.
The Atmos can accumulate up to 1 year's power reserve.
In a single day, she can turn herself around for over a month...
The mechanism of the Atmos is so perfect that the gears do not need to be oiled.
The Atmos consumes so little energy that a fly on the minute hand can stop the clock.
The Atmos balance performs 1 oscillation per minute - 60 times less than a conventional clock - 14,400 times less than a watch.
Elinvar ® Wire metal alloy is so difficult to obtain and so expensive that the stock is kept in a bank vault.
The Atmos gas is Ethyl Chloride C2H5CN.
As early as 1928, the Atmos was ahead of its time: perpetual, silent and totally ecological!
