A myth

In the early 1930s, one of the major problems for British officers in the Indian Army was the resistance of their precious wristwatches to the particularly violent shocks caused by their favorite sport, polo... Jaeger-Lecoultre came up with the idea of a watch with clean, uncluttered lines that would nevertheless have the robustness necessary to satisfy an audience of elegant athletes. The challenge was to create a watch that could turn over and withstand violent shocks. The Reverso was born and became the timeless icon of the Art Deco philosophy.

What you need to know

This mechanical hand-wound Grande Reverso watch was launched in the 2010s. Offered in new dimensions of 30 x 48.5 mm, the usual small, discreet watch is contemporary with this new masculine size. Remaining true to its ideal proportions, which made it an icon of the art deco era, it remains as elegant as ever in its 18K pink gold case decorated with the three godrons motif. It is dressed with a black alligator strap, with a butterfly folding clasp also in pink gold 18K. Presented here with a black dial of a splendid sobriety, the latter is decorated with painted Arabic numerals and equipped with a double finish: satin for the largest part with a rectangle in its center presenting a clous de Paris pattern. Large rose gold hands run through it, offering a striking contrast. Finally, the watch is powered by a manufacture caliber. The movement is visible through the sapphire caseback, a rare feature to highlight on a Reverso model. This Jaeger-LeCoultre 976 caliber has all the characteristics of the robust and precise movements for which Jaeger is known : a variable inertia balance beating at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, and a power reserve of 48 hours.
