At the beginning of the 1960s, the bisontine Manufacture Lip had 1,770 employees and 300,000 pieces produced in-house. It was at this time that Fred Lipmann started working on the first French watch that was water-resistant to 200 meters, with the brand's centenary in 1967 in mind. The Lip Nautic-Ski was really launched at the 1968 Grenoble Winter Olympic Games where LIP and Omega shared the timing of the different events. It is distinguished by the mention "Ski", a tribute from Fred Lipmann to his daughter, a member of the French women's alpine ski team. Its electromechanical movement "R148", indicated by the lightning symbol on the dial, is a marvel. Affordable and very reliable, it allows LIP to revive its popular image by offering a waterproof, very accurate and affordable watch.

Impressive water resistance

To perfect the Nautic Ski, Lip will opt for a "Super Compressor" case supplied by the Swiss company Ervin Piquerez SA, widely used in the 60s by many brands, more or less famous. The " Super Compressor " cases have the peculiarity of offering not an external rotating bezel but an internal one to avoid the unfortunate consequences of false movements. Another distinctive feature of these cases are the two famous crowns, most often striated, placed on the case middle: one to set the time and the other to rotate the internal bezel.
