Gold necklaces

Classic jewel par excellence, the gold necklace is a must -have, a strong piece to have absolutely in its jewellery box!

What is 18k gold (750 gold)?

The gold used to make Lepage jewellery, and all the jewellery we offer for sale, from the most beautiful Jewellery Maison (Dior, Messika, dinh van, Le Gramme, Ginette NY, La Brune et La Blonde, Aurélie Bidermann...) is 750 thousandths gold (known as « 18k gold »). It is called "18k gold (750 gold)" because it is actually an alloy, composed of 75% pure gold and 25% other precious metals, which serve to give it strength and a particular colour. In fact, pure gold in its natural state, although an unalterable metal, is too malleable to be used on its own in the manufacture of jewellery and ceremonial objects. It must therefore be combined with other metals to be worked, usually, in the case of 18k gold (750 thousandths, as there are also alloys of less noble quality, giving rise to 585 thousandths or 350 thousandths gold for example) be combined with silver, copper or palladium to be.

White gold

White gold is also called "grey gold", as this is the hue it displays before being treated. In fact, it is thanks to rhodium plating, the last step in the preparation of the jewel, that white gold becomes bright and takes on a beautiful white colour! This operation, rhodium plating, is a treatment that consists of plating a thin layer of rhodium (an extremely precious, rare and expensive metal) on the jewel, so that all the gold is covered. The rhodium plating of your white gold jewellery should be renewed regularly, every two or three years, so that it never loses its splendour and remains radiant as on the first day! A white gold necklace is a timeless and timeless piece, which will be easy to wear whatever the occasion.

Yellow gold

Solar, yellow gold shines. Used for thousands of years in many cultures and civilizations to make jewellery, accessories, decorations and ceremonial objects, it has stood the test of time without losing any of its beauty. Shaping a piece of jewellery, it makes the wearer shine, catching the light with every movement. Alone or accompanied by precious stones, it is a material of choice for a necklace, which will naturally nestle in the hollow of your neck!

Rose gold

It is thanks to a higher proportion of copper in the alloy that makes up 18k rose gold (750 gold) that it takes on the beautiful pinkish hues it is known for. From one Maison to another, the pink hue can vary from very weak to more pronounced, depending on the amount of copper in the alloy. Each brand offers rose gold jewellery in slightly different colours. At Lepage, our rose gold is very soft, which gives rise to feminine creations that will please the most romantic! Less cold than white gold, and less classic than yellow gold, rose gold is a good compromise if you are looking for a necklace that is both modern and precious...

How to identify a 18k gold (750 gold) necklace

In order to know the quality of the gold in which your jewel is made, you can check the hallmarks that have struck on the piece. The first type of hallmark is the so-called guarantee hallmark, or title hallmark. The Eagle's head hallmark guarantees a 750 thousandth gold title, the hallmark representing a scallop shell identifies 585 thousandth gold jewellery, and the trefoil hallmark concerns 375 thousandth gold jewellery. These official authentication marks are accompanied by the master mark, which is that of the jeweller who made the piece, attesting to the provenance and quality of the jewel. The Lepage master hallmark takes the form of a rhombus, inside which is an apple, a reference to the family's Norman origins, surrounded by the initials B and L.

A gold necklace, timeless and unmissable

Used for thousands of years across many, many cultures and civilizations, gold is, for its brilliance and preciousness, a favourite material for making necklaces. A precious metal of great rarity, it is a sign of wealth and luxury. Today, gold is still THE most widely used material in jewellery, and is a safe bet. You can't go wrong with a gold necklace!
