The Seiko SpeedTimer collection is inspired by Seiko's professional timekeeping heritage! Indeed, in the 1960s, Seiko entered the international sports timing scene with a whole new generation of high-precision timekeeping devices that were enthusiastically endorsed by many international sports federations and used to capture elapsed time at numerous world sporting events. These watches were particularly famous at the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games, when the brand was appointed Official Timekeeper! This was a turning point in the history of Seiko. The SpeedTimer collection therefore naturally presents automatic chronograph models re-creating the 1964 model, for a neo-vintage inspiration. But the SpeedTimer collection does not stop there! Indeed, in 1969, Seiko presented the Seiko Speedtimer with the innovative calibre 6139. It was the world's first automatic chronograph with a column wheel and a vertical clutch, two devices that brought real improvements in the measurement of elapsed time by a wristwatch and are still a prerequisite for high-function chronographs today! This chrono is an iconic model and was even worn in space by Colonel William Pogue. This 6139 watch is considered the first automatic chronograph watch in space. Today's SpeedTimer collection offers sunglasses inspired by the 1969 Speedtimer model. Powered by the V192 calibre, they feature a 24-hour indicator, a small seconds hand for the time display, a chronograph minute counter for up to 60 minutes in a sub-dial at six o'clock, and a power reserve indication function. They are offered in several different dial colours.
