Rolex GMT-Master 1675 automatic 40 mm Full Set 1975
- NEW
It's hard to resist a Rolex 1675 and its legendary “Pepsi” insert! The most iconic reference of the GMT-Master, it has become an icon and an object of desire. This Full Set model from 1975 is the perfect example...
A brief history
With a history spanning almost 70 years, the Rolex GMT-Master is considered by collectors to be one of the most important icons in the world of watchmaking. When Rolex presented the 6542 for the first time in 1954 at the request of the American airline Pan Am, it was, alongside the Glycine Airman, the first wristwatch to display a second time zone. It particularly attracted attention with its graduated bezel with “day/night” indication thanks to the now legendary blue and red, as well as an additional 24-hour hand.
In 1959, and until 1979, Rolex produced the most emblematic of all GMT-Masters: reference 1675. Over the years, this reference has undergone several modifications and improvements. A large number of other inserts and dials have been produced to suit different tastes, but the red and blue “Pepsi” insert remains a firm favorite. All these modifications keep armies of Rolex GMT-Master experts busy, in search of the rare pearl!
What you need to know
If there could only be one vintage Rolex GMT-Master, the 1675 would surely be collectors' number one choice! The one we are offering you today is a very nice version, which according to its serial number, was made in 1973!
Its 40 mm case is in very good condition. The watch is fitted with a service Oyster bracelet, with solid links, reference 78360 with endlinks 580. This is not disturbing, as it is a bracelet found on the 1975 models from 1975/1976 onwards. Its insert is also serviceable, but offers a real red and blue “pep”.
There is a Mark 4-type dial, with tritium hour markers, which have a homogeneous, almost white patina. Its domed Plexiglas protects the Mercedes hands, a lollipop second hand and a service “big GMT” with Luminova paint. Behind the case back is the 1575 caliber, which will introduce the frequency of 19,600 vibrations per hour and the 48-hour power reserve at Rolex.
