Adopted by the French Air Force in the 70s to equip helicopter rescue divers, the Superman has left its mark on the history of sports watchmaking. A more affordable, Swiss Made version

YEMA surprises us once again, with a new take on its mythical Superman! No manufacture caliber and French production for this one, but a Swiss Made version!

This Superman Swiss Edition embodies a vibrant tribute to the original model reference 53.00.16 from the 1970s, faithfully taking up its emblematic aesthetic codes. These include the “990 FEET” steel case with its characteristic straight lugs, patented lugs-lock mechanism, retro aluminum bezel, domed crystal and distinctive “pelle” second hand. This special edition boasts the prestigious “Swiss Made” label, a guarantee of quality and Swiss watchmaking expertise. Equipped with a Sellita SW200-1 caliber, it is manufactured and assembled in Bienne, Switzerland, just 70 km from the YEMA workshops in Morteau, the cradle of French watchmaking. This geographical proximity underlines the close link between the two watchmaking cultures, united by an ancestral tradition and a UNESCO-recognized intangible cultural heritage.

The Swiss Edition model

The YEMA Superman Swiss Edition is distinguished by technical and aesthetic features that pay tribute to its heritage while meeting the demands of modern divers. The unidirectional 120-click aluminum bezel, graduated from 0 to 60 minutes, retains the vintage look of the original 1970s model. The bezel block at 3 o'clock, a mechanism patented by YEMA, prevents accidental rotation of the bezel underwater, a unique feature that has distinguished the Superman since 1963.

The printed dial, with its iconic round hour markers, and the large hands, including the arrow-shaped minute hand and the “shovel” second hand, reinforce the Superman's distinctive style. The Superman Heritage is the only modern watch that has retained the aesthetics of the period model while incorporating the functional features of professional diving watches.

The screw-down caseback, adorned with the historic YEMA crest stamped with a hydraulic press, is treated with bead-blasting for a raised rendering. The dial indexes, bezel 12 o'clock marker and hands are coated with Super-LumiNova Grade A, guaranteeing optimum readability in the dark.

A Sellita SW200-1 Swiss caliber

The Superman Swiss Edition is powered by the Swiss Sellita SW200-1 caliber, an automatic movement renowned for its reliability and precision. This 26-jewel caliber, widely used in Swiss watchmaking, offers a comfortable 38-hour power reserve while beating at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz). It features a ball-bearing automatic winding mechanism, a stop-second for precise time setting, and reinforced gears for greater shock resistance. The SW200-1's daily drift is set at -/+ 12 seconds per day, with a maximum drift of -/+ 30 seconds per day. This high-quality Swiss caliber thus guarantees reliable, precise performance for this exceptional watch.

Composed of double links in 316L steel, alternating polished and brushed finishes, it offers a robust yet elegant appearance.
