Imagine a watch designed to accompany space explorers on their most daring missions. A watch that, while paying tribute to the legendary heritage of the Speedmaster, the watch worn by the first men on the Moon, pushes the boundaries of watchmaking technology. It was in this spirit that the Omega Speedmaster Skywalker X-33 was created. Specially designed for astronauts, this innovative Speedmaster is an updated version of the Speedmaster Professional X-33, launched in 1998. This first-generation X-33 was designed in coordination with NASA astronauts, Russian cosmonauts and former professional military pilots. Omega even went so far as to send prototypes into the field to be tested in real-life conditions.

This new generation was presented in 2014 and has been innovatively enhanced and developed to meet the needs not only of astronauts, but also of all those who can appreciate its impressive variety of functions. A true fusion between the glorious past and the promising future of space exploration.

The model

This Speedmaster comes with a 45 mm-diameter case, crafted in grade 2 titanium with a matte finish to limit reflections. It is topped by a matt ceramic bezel with a chrome nitride scale. The 60-minute indicator features white Super-LumiNova markers with green luminescence for optimal legibility. It is worn on a grade 2 titanium bracelet with grade 5 titanium links.

But the most important feature on this Skywalker is its combination of analog and digital displays! Indeed, its black dial, punctuated by white hour-markers, stands out for its central aperture allowing the user to access the information on the digital display, which is aligned in horizontal rows to improve legibility. We'll come back to the full range of functions a little later!

The black and white skeletonized hour and minute hands are coated with Super-LumiNova with green luminescence. The red second hand stands out clearly. The hands can be disengaged to better view the digital display. The liquid crystal display with electroluminescent backlighting is distinguished by its grey segments on a black background.

This Skywalker X-33 is powered by OMEGA caliber 5619, a multifunction quartz chronograph movement featuring a thermally compensated integrated circuit. This innovative caliber was developed under an ESA patent license from an invention by European Space Agency astronaut Jean-François Clervoy. It offers multiple complications on its dual display (analog and digital) and features, among other things: three time zones, a chronograph, a countdown timer, MET (Mission Elapsed Time) and PET (Phase Elapsed Time) functions, three alarms and a perpetual calendar.
