The basics

Do we really need to introduce you to the Chanel J12? This watch was designed in 2000 by Jacques Helleu, then Artistic Director of Chanel. It was he who introduced the brand with the two intertwined C's to the world of watchmaking in 1987 with the “Première”. And it was he, too, who anticipated watchmaking trends while ensuring that each new model from the brand was in keeping with the house's codes.

Thus, in 2000, after seven years' work, he launched the “J12”, a sports watch combining design and technological innovation. A watch collector and vintage car enthusiast, he drew inspiration from references ranging from the automotive world to high-tech... All of which are reflected in the design of this iconic watch. When it was launched, it was an immediate success. The J12 was seen on the wrists of celebrities such as Rihanna, Scarlett Johansson, Emma Watson, Katy Perry, Hugh Grant and Johnny Hallyday. Now an icon, it celebrated 20 years of success in 2020!

This reference was launched in 2011 with one objective: to create a new color and a new material! Developed in Chanel's Swiss workshops, the Chromatic color was born from the use of a 21st century material: titanium ceramic! Oscillating between black and white, two colors dear to Gabrielle Chanel, the Chromatic color propels the J12 watch into a dimension where time and material are one.

With its small 33 mm diameter, this J12 offers a mysterious duality, both color and non-color, light thanks to titanium, resistant thanks to ceramic and ergonomic thanks to its thermal neutrality. Despite its small size, all the stylistic codes of this icon can be found.

Furthermore, the color of its dial changes shade according to the orientation of the light. The slightest movement of the wrist magically transforms it from light grey to anthracite. The material of the case and bracelet acts like a light trap, capturing ambient luminosity and rendering it in as many shades of color.

Powered by an ETA quartz caliber, it is designed to be reliable and precise in everyday use. Neither too showy nor too discreet. Just functional. The very essence of the J12.

The package

This Chanel J12 reference H2978 is in excellent condition. Its ceramic construction ensures lightness and extreme scratch resistance! This example from the 2010s will be delivered in a Lepage case. This watch has undergone a full service in 2019 and we have changed its battery and checked its water-resistance before it went on sale. This Chanel has been authenticated by our watchmaker and thus benefits from a one-year Lepage Vintage warranty.
