Oris has always created watches that stir the emotions. With the new Divers Date, the Swiss brand once again offers a model that makes the heart skip a beat. Its retro design and unrivalled comfort make it an ideal companion for everyday wear as well as underwater exploration.
60 years of smiles!
Six decades after its first diver's watch, Oris unveils its new Divers Date collection, making for a bold, joyful and creative era. The objective? To elicit a similarly strong and warm emotional response.
In the 1960s, the world was finally emerging from the shadow of war, and a new generation of thinkers and doers was emerging. Creatively and economically liberated, and with mass communication tools at their disposal for the first time, they helped a gloomy world emerge into a brighter, more hopeful future through bold art, music, film, fashion and design. It was the era of James Bond played by Sean Connery, the late Alain Delon, Jane Birkin, the Beatles, Mary Quant and the miniskirt. The Swinging Sixties. What a time to be alive!
At the same time, Oris firmly established itself as one of the world's leading watch companies, renowned for its elegant designs, performance and mechanical reliability. While many of these were watches for everyday wear, such as the Big Crown Pointer Date, which had already been in circulation for three decades, others were aimed at a generation on the up, looking for travel and lifestyle. Scuba diving was one of these new activities, which caught the world's attention thanks to Jacques Cousteau and Bond himself. It was for these citizens that Oris created its first diving watch, a highly legible, high-performance timepiece.
In 2015, to mark the 50th anniversary of this diver, Oris had reimagined it for a contemporary audience. The Divers Sixty-Five benefited from a number of enhancements, including a domed sapphire crystal, a corrosion-resistant stainless steel case and a modern automatic mechanical movement. Over the past decade, the Divers Sixty-Five has brought smiles to many faces with its '60s design. Now, on the eve of the 60th anniversary of this first diver's watch Oris has decided it's time to bring it up to date...
A totally redesigned and improved Divers!
Oris revives its Divers while remaining just as iconic! Its design is still inspired by a 1965 model, but it has been modernized for today's enthusiast.
While it's easy to recognize the sober silhouette of the old Divers Sixty-Five from 2015, every element has been reworked to deliver cutting-edge style and performance!
The steel case increases from 38 to 39 mm, to give the watch more presence, a more mature profile and increased water resistance. Indeed, this new Divers increases to 200 meters water resistance, more suited to recreational diving, the sport that inspired the original model.
The unidirectional diver's bezel also changes, now offering more grip, while the black insert is now in scratch- and fade-resistant ceramic.
Finally, the steel bracelet has been slightly refined and now features a quick-change strap system that allows it to be replaced by the supplied black rubber strap with a “tropic” look. We love the “riveted” rendering of the steel and the neo-vintage look of the tropic, which we appreciate so much on this watch!
A 1960's dial!
The Divers dial has also been enhanced. The indexes are beveled, a subtle modification that enhances legibility while adding depth to the dial. The font used on the dial has been developed exclusively for this new Divers collection to give it an imposing presence, while retaining the retro spirit.
Finally, on the color side, this version features a black that echoes the industrial palette of the 60s. Its plain, almost lacquered appearance recalls the best of the Skins-Divers of the belle époque! This dial is protected by a domed sapphire crystal to great effect.
A “Swiss Made” automatic movement
This Oris Diver Date is powered by the Oris 733 movement, designed on a Sellita SW 200-1 base. This caliber, well known to the brand's enthusiasts, is for the first time visible through a sapphire crystal caseback in the Diver collection. It has been upgraded to offer 41 hours of power reserve, while continuing to beat at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. As tradition dictates, this movement is still equipped with the famous red rotor! And for the more meticulous among us, this caliber also features a fine adjustment system and stop seconds.
