This exceptional watch reflects the heritage of both Houses, rooted in the legendary Carrera Panamericana race, and celebrates the 70th anniversary of Porsche's first victories. Indeed, in the 1954 edition of the Carrera Panamericana, the Porsche 550 Spyder took first and second place in the under 1,500cc category, and third and fourth place overall in the race.

The story

The Carrera Panamericana, a legendary motor racing event, has left its mark on the history of world motorsport. Held between 1950 and 1954, this legendary race spanned more than 3,000 kilometers across Mexico, pushing drivers and their machines to the limit at speeds in excess of 150 kph. The combination of varied landscapes, extreme weather conditions and winding roads made it an unrivalled endurance event. Although discontinued for safety reasons, the Carrera Panamericana left an indelible mark on the world of motorsport, inspiring many generations of drivers and manufacturers.

Porsche's involvement in the Carrera Panamericana is an important chapter in its history. In 1954, the Porsche 550 Spyder, driven by Hans Herrmann, won its class. This triumph laid the foundations for Porsche's endurance racing prowess, and established its superiority in design. With its understated design and revolutionary twin-cam engine, the 550 Spyder became an icon of automotive innovation and performance. It embodied the spirit of competition and innovation that has always characterized the Porsche brand. It also laid the foundations for Porsche's future success in endurance racing. The 550 Spyder is much more than just a car, it's a symbol of performance and elegance that has won 95 of the 370 races in which it has competed.

It was against this backdrop of competition and adventure that Jack Heuer drew his inspiration to create the Heuer Carrera chronograph in 1962. Fascinated by the stories of the Carrera Panamericana and the exploits of legendary drivers like Pedro and Ricardo Rodríguez, Heuer wanted to pay tribute to this spirit of challenge and precision.

Launched in 1963, the first Heuer Carrera chronograph features a sleek dial designed to facilitate legibility at high speed, embodying TAG Heuer's commitment to functionality and elegance. The TAG Heuer Carrera, which celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2023, has made a lasting mark as one of the most iconic and innovative watches.

The design of this new TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon x Porsche Panamericana is a vibrant tribute to the iconic Porsche 550 Spyder, with a design inspired by the famous racing car. The skeletonized dial evokes the rims of the 550 Spyder, while the silver, yellow and black color scheme echoes that of the original racing car. The second hand and the lacquered yellow sub-dial hands give the watch an extra touch of sportiness.

The dial and sub-dials, with their shimmering reflections, evoke the shimmering bodywork of the 550 Spyder under the sun. For its part, the grained look of the openwork, whose shape is inspired by the 550's rims, illustrates the texture of asphalt on the road and adds a sporty touch to the watch. The dial reveals the movement's volute brushed finish, combining technical know-how and aesthetics.

Giving this watch a resolutely sporty character, the 42 mm stainless steel case alternates brushed and polished finishes. The “Spyder” logo, engraved on the side, evokes the original font used by Porsche in the 1950s.
