Bell & Ross creates instrument watches inspired by aeronautical tools. Its models are aimed at professionals. With this singular model, Bell & Ross wanted to demonstrate the high potential of the chronograph complication and its involvement in sport. The name Multimeter evokes a time-measuring instrument used in various sporting competitions. The BR 03-94 Multimeter is aimed at all athletes involved in racing. It is designed to provide maximum information on their physical activity.
The chronograph function
The BR 03-94 Multimeter is a chronograph. These sporty watches are designed to measure short times. They feature a large, independent central hand that can be started, stopped and reset. Chronographs also measure speed using a tachometric scale.
Initially, these watches were used in:
- aviation. They enabled pilots to prepare their flight plans. They were also used to define an aircraft's position in the sky.
- the navy, to calculate the position of ships on the oceans.
- medicine. Some models have been specifically developed for doctors. They can be used to take the pulse with precision.
- motor sports, to determine the speed of a racing car
The chronograph function therefore enables multiple measurements. The BR 03-94 Multimeter was designed to bring them all together on its dial. This exceptional model measures speed, breathing rate and heart rate. It's a kind of “Swiss army knife” for sports enthusiasts.
The cockpit as inspiration
The new BR 03-94 Multimeter takes up the iconic “round in a square” shape of the emblematic cockpit clock. This watch was born in 2005. Its highly graphic case has become a design benchmark. The BR 03-94 Multimeter has a diameter of 42 mm. This size makes it perfectly suited to everyday use. The multicolored dial of this sophisticated chronograph captivates the eye.
A dial rich in information for numerous measurements
Like all chronographs, the BR 03-94 Multimeter is designed to measure short times. This novelty is multi-activity, in fact, it merges all the information indicated by a chronograph.
The BR 03-94 Multimeter represents a kind of ultimate instrument. It can be used for running, cycling or piloting. With this novelty, Bell & Ross addresses a very large number of athletes.
Two additional dial counters complete the chronograph indication. The one at 9 o'clock indicates the chrono minutes. The one at 3 o'clock displays the permanent seconds.
To maintain optimal legibility, the watchmaker has opted for double unbalanced hands. Their counterweight compensates for the absence of indexes.
Of course, the BR 03-94 Multimeter also displays the hours and minutes via central hands and the date in an aperture. Its chrono scale, graduated over 60 minutes, is classically positioned on the dial's flange.
One color, one function
Visually, the spectacular BR 03-94 Multimeter takes care of its presentation. This singular, graphic chronograph is extremely pleasing to the eye. Its colored dial is based on the principle of color differentiation of the various indications displayed on aircraft dashboards. The matte black ceramic case contrasts with the brightly-colored dial, teeming with information. To preserve legibility and functionality, Bell & Ross has chosen a specific shade for each family of information.
- The pulsometric scale is dressed in orange. It runs only along the right half of the dial.
- The asthmometric scale is clad in bottle green. It too runs only along the right half of the dial.
- The three tachometric scales opt for pale green, light grey and white. They run the full length of the dial.
For improved legibility, the date has been transferred between noon and 1 o'clock (it's usually located between 4 and 5 o'clock). In this position, it does not obscure any indication.
Instructions for use
The original BR 03-94 Multimeter is powered by the self-winding BR-CAL.301 caliber. This exceptional mechanism is ideally suited to this spectacular chronograph. At first glance, the operation of this watch may appear complex. In reality, it is far less complex than it appears. To understand it properly, it's essential to refer to the small instruction manual on the left-hand side of the dial. Very easy to understand, it presents the 5 on-board scales.
It defines them according to three fundamental data: the unit base (“base”), the function (“function”) and the unit of measurement (“unit”).
