The timeless aesthetic of an Art Deco design icon

The Reverso, one of the world's most recognizable watchmaking creations, was conceived in 1931 in response to a challenge: to imagine a wristwatch capable of withstanding the shocks of polo games. A rare example of a design equally suited to men and women, the Reverso was almost immediately adopted by personalities from all walks of life. Over its nine decades of existence, this timepiece has undergone numerous modifications beyond its original use as a sports watch, including different proportions and a variety of dial styles, without ever compromising its identity. In 2016, to mark the 85th anniversary of this timepiece, Jaeger-LeCoultre launched the Reverso Tribute line, which takes up the stylistic codes of the original 1931 model.

A new size, ideal for both men and women

Jaeger-LeCoultre presents us with this Reverso Tribute Monoface, a new size. Very close to the original 1931 Reverso case, its 40.1 x 24.4 mm dimensions and slim 7.56 mm profile guarantee comfort and elegance on any wrist. This watch remains true to its refined form and embodies the spirit of its era. Its harmonious rectangular geometry and pure lines draw attention to the watch's emblematic horizontal gadroons. The exceptional design of the pivoting case and the refined triangular lugs seem to melt into each of its elegant bracelets. The case hugs its stretcher so well that, at first glance, there's no indication that it can be turned over.

As with the first Reverso models, the blank metal caseback of this Monoface model, originally conceived as a purely functional solution, is an ideal canvas for creativity, inviting owners to express their personal style or celebrate a treasured memory with engravings or lacquer.

On the dial side, this piece pays homage to the iconic codes of the original Reverso, which saw the light of day during the golden age of Art Deco. The black chemin de fer minute markers contrast brilliantly with the silvered opaline dial, giving the Reverso a dynamic, contemporary style. The sleek dial enhances the model's iconic style, making it a sophisticated choice for any occasion. The trapezoidal hour markers and sublime Dauphine hands evoke the timeless elegance of its predecessor.

To dress it up, Jaeger-LeCoultre and Italian Maison Casa Fagliano have designed a bracelet inspired by the world of polo. Exclusively designed for the Reverso Tribute line, this interchangeable bracelet with folding clasp features two contrasting textures: smooth calf leather and saffiano calf leather. A timeless model to suit all wrists. In addition to this bracelet presented with the watch, four other colors are available and, thanks to the Jaeger-LeCoultre interchangeable system, wearers can quickly change them according to the occasion or mood.

A heart of form

As well as being a recognized icon of Art Deco design, the Reverso perfectly embodies Jaeger-LeCoultre's watchmaking philosophy. Founded on the belief that the shape of a movement should match that of its case as closely as possible, Reverso calibres are designed in the shape of a barrel, rather than the classic round shape. Although the movements are not visible in many Reverso models, many components are meticulously hand-finished.

Thus, this watch is powered by the hand-wound Calibre 822. Like all Reverso movements, it is tonneau-shaped and fits perfectly into the rectangular case of the Reverso Tribute Monoface

Faithful to the calibers of the 1930s, this movement is emblematic of the Maison Jaeger-LeCoultre, embodying this spirit of innovation. It comprises 108 components and is just 2.94 mm thick. Its finish is exemplary, and it features the bridge typical of calibers made in the Vallée de Joux: a revolver silhouette and sunburst finish. It offers 42 hours of power reserve.
