The story

In contrast to the Tank watch, the Panthère is not as well known. First introduced in 1983, at the height of 80s opulence, the Panthère was acclaimed for its sleek design, concealed clasp and link bracelet. The latter was designed so that the watch could also be worn as a piece of jewelry, combining beauty and functionality while wrapping elegantly around the wrist. In 1984, Cartier launched a two-tone version in gold and steel, followed in 1991 by an all-steel version. Since then, Cartier has continued to reinvent the Panthère through the decades, with mini, pixel, double or triple bracelet and cuff versions, making this watch a veritable playground for the Maison's workshops. When the design is successful, the possibilities become infinite.

Cartier watch enthusiasts will notice the similarities between the Panthère and Santos. Both models share square cases, screwed bezels and dials adorned with similar Roman numerals. However, the Panthère, although inspired by the Santos, is distinguished by a more delicate, compact and slender profile, giving it an added touch of sophistication. Above all, it's the refined design of the Panthère bracelet that makes it unique.

The first generation of Panthère watches was produced from 1983 to 2004 and came in five main sizes: mini, petite (SM), moyenne (MM), grande (LM) and jumbo. Interestingly, Cartier had originally designed the Panthère to appeal to both men and women. The Mini and Small versions were aimed at women, while the Medium size was a unisex option, and the Large and Jumbo sizes were aimed primarily at men. During the 1980s and 1990s, the Panther was a huge success, embodying the glamour of the era. Its unique style perfectly matched the tastes of the fashion elite, making the Panthère de Cartier the ultimate symbol of the luxury watch of that period.

The model:

The model we present is the “SM” version, which features a 22 x 30 mm rounded square steel case. It features all the Cartier watchmaking hallmarks: a silvery-white dial with sloping black Roman numerals radiating around the axis of the hands, a central chemin de fer, sword-shaped blued hands and a winding crown set with a blue spinel cabochon. Finally, there's also the secret “Cartier” signature, which appears delicately, at an angle, at 10 o'clock!

The dial has aged beautifully to an ivory-white color and is overall clean and flawless.

The package

This Cartier Panthère is in very good condition. This 2000 model will be delivered Full Set with its iconic red case, and its user manual and original warranty card. This watch was serviced by Cartier in June 2024. In addition, it has been authenticated and controlled by our watchmaker and as such benefits from the Lepage Vintage 1-year warranty.
