As the days lengthen and temperatures rise, ZENITH celebrates summer with the very first DEFY Skyline model in white ceramic, featuring an openworked dial and a blue skeleton movement to complete the summer touch.
Creating the future of watchmaking
With the return of the DEFY collection in 2017, the star-spangled brand never ceases in its never-ending pursuit of precision through innovation. Indeed, this collection represents Zenith's creative "laboratory", combining cutting-edge movements with futuristic shapes and materials, perpetuating the Manufacture's heritage of surpassing itself to set new standards of performance and elegance.
In 2022, the DEFY collection saw the appearance of Skyline models making no exception to the rule. Indeed, this contemporary line proposed a new way of conceiving a three-hand sports watch, with a new caliber and an all-new design. In 2023, the Manufacture has metamorphosed the Skyline line, offering a skeletonized version, perfectly integrating an open dial with an openworked version of the El Primero automatic movement...
For this DEFY Skyline Skeleton 2024 edition, the symmetrically openworked dial and skeleton movement are clad in immaculate white ceramic: a first in the DEFY Skyline collection. With alternating polished and satin-finished surfaces, the case and dodecagonal bezel in highly scratch-resistant white ceramic give a striking interpretation of DEFY's versatile style. Thanks to water resistance to 100 meters, there's no summer activity proscribed for the DEFY Skyline Skeleton in white ceramic.
A breath of fresh air
The white ceramic case of the new DEFY Skyline Skeleton is perfectly complemented by an openworked dial in intense blue and a skeleton movement. Playing with light to display ever-changing shades of blue, the openwork dial takes the shape of the famous 1969 ZENITH four-pointed star, a recurring motif within the DEFY collection. It reveals the El Primero 3620 SK skeleton movement, itself clothed in ZENITH's signature midnight blue. In place of the traditional small seconds, the DEFY Skyline features the world's first and only permanent 1/10th of a second indicator, equipped with a hand that rotates in 10 seconds, serving as a subtle reminder to enjoy every moment this summer.
As for the skeleton dial, it features harmonious symmetry: its four-pointed star shape is a nod to ZENITH's 1960s "double Z" logo. The baton hour markers applied to the hour circle, as well as the central hour and minute hands, are filled with Super-LumiNova to enhance legibility. The openworked dial is finished in black, as are the plate, bridges and oscillating weight, to create a coherent architectural look. The different finishes, matte, satin and polished, accentuate the depth of the construction and the intensity of the color.
Designed with versatility in mind, the DEFY Skyline Skeleton in white ceramic comes on an integrated white ceramic bracelet, perfectly adapted to the contours of the wrist, which adopts the polished and satin finishes of the case. ZENITH supplies a second strap, in glossy white rubber to match the ceramic, hence the relevance of the ingenious quick-change mechanism that requires no tools.
A remarkably precise skeletonized caliber
This DEFY Skyline Skeleton is powered by an El Primero caliber in an unprecedented three-hand skeleton version! In fact, this reference is powered by an El Primero 3620 SK, using the same architecture as the caliber 3600. This caliber beats at a high frequency of 36,000 vibrations per hour, has a bidirectional automatic winding mechanism and a 60-hour power reserve. As you will have noticed, a constantly moving tenths-of-a-second hand makes regular jumps at set intervals and completes one revolution every ten seconds, reminding its owner of the fleeting nature of time. This hand is directly driven by the silicon escapement wheel, making it a "natural" indication of the fraction of a second. In this way, the DEFY Skyline Skeleton stands out as the first and only skeleton watch to feature such an exceptional complication.
To conclude, Zenith proves once again that this manufacture is unique and different. Its star, a symbol of its desire to reach the highest summits, is once again demonstrated to us by its remarkable mastery of high frequency!
