The clues being many, you've probably guessed the meaning of the "L". Not lagoon, not lavender, but "L" as in "luminescent". Indeed, thanks to the integral inlay of Super-LumiNova®, the entire dial emits a bright glow as soon as the lights go out.

A versatile diver

The TYPE 5 has been designed to be worn every day, in and out of the water. Its polished 46 mm case is made entirely of grade 5 titanium, which ensures a light weight, its 85 grams only, offering excellent wearing comfort. The result is both more ergonomic and considerably lighter than any traditional diver's watch. What's more, its design is organic and inspired by nature, particularly sea turtles! In fact, it has been designed in this aqua-dynamic shape to propel itself easily through the water. And what better shape for an amphibious watch?

Optimum legibility

The ultra-luminescence of the TYPE 5 L is combined with the presence of oil (3.57 ml) in the upper case chamber of any TYPE 5, creating an amplified projection effect that gives the illusion that information is displayed directly on the sapphire. The dial is thus rendered highly legible from any viewing angle, offering a clear, crisp display essential to the diver.

The use of this technique cancels out what is known as total internal reflection. Typically, underwater, a traditional diver's watch must be looked at head-on to be read correctly - otherwise refraction turns the glass into a mirror. When first presented, this Ressence technology was a first for a mechanical watch.

A true diver's watch

The TYPE 5 L complies with the rigorous ISO 6425 standard required for underwater exploration, adhering to the highest levels of safety and reliability. The watch is water-resistant to 100 meters (10 ATM). It has also passed shock and magnetic field resistance tests, among a host of other tests. The robust Grade 5 titanium construction guarantees durability while maintaining a lightweight profile.

The TYPE 5 L also features a unidirectional rotating bezel with an ergonomic, easy-to-handle design, enabling precise, reliable adjustments. This is a crucial feature for divers who depend on their watch to accurately track immersion time. What's more, like other Ressence models, the TYPE 5 has no crown, and it's the caseback that winds and sets the watch's time. To ensure perfect water-resistance underwater, the TYPE 5 caseback contains the Ressence Compression Lock System (RCLS), a mechanism that allows divers to lock the compression joint to guarantee water-resistance.

In addition, oil technology offers other advantages. The components are constantly lubricated and, because they are suspended in a liquid, they are lighter and therefore require less energy to move, which improves timing accuracy.

To complete its modern, versatile look, this Ressence Full Lume is dressed in a grey textile strap with a yellow leather double. For diving and simply bathing, you'll also find a blue rubber strap in its case.

The ROCS 5 mechanism

Like all RESSENCE watches, the TYPE 5 is first and foremost a contemporary haute horlogerie watch! The time display is unique, and this is only possible with the patented ROCS 5 system. It replaces the hands with continuously rotating discs on a main dial that itself completes one revolution in 60 minutes. This module is curved to match the curvature of the sapphire crystal that covers it. This mechanism is driven by the minute axis of a customized self-winding base caliber 2824/2.

It consists of 142 parts, made entirely of grade 5 titanium. The entire device displays 4 display information: hours, minutes, the second hand (over 90 seconds as well as the oil temperature. This module and caliber assembly, has a 36-hour running time, and features a balance wheel with a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour.

To operate in this viscous universe, many innovations had to be introduced, such as a magnetic transmission to make the link between the caliber, present in the lower part of the watch, and the ROCS module, immersed in the oil. To cope with temperature changes in the oil, a self-compensating system with 7 bellows was introduced. This device is directly linked to the oil temperature gauge on the dial, which can therefore be seen as a graphic representation of the bellows' ability to compensate for variations in oil volume.

Intuitive visually and in the movement, discreet in its aesthetics, the Type 5 L is a perfect example of what 21st-century watchmaking is all about according to Ressence. It eliminates optical complexities and superfluous elements to create a timeless, practical object that sparks and inspires the imagination.
