The little story

Let's go back to the 1950s. Everything was accelerating, progress was taking hold in all industries, the standard of living in the majority of developed countries was rising, we were in the middle of the "Trente Glorieuses" period. Just like the Navitimer collection, which has recently been revamped, and its performance requirements for aviators, the 1950s saw a strong demand for diving watches. Whether for professionals, enthusiasts or sportsmen, nautical activities were booming and needed to be reliable for a then almost unexploited underwater world.

SuperOcean Slow Motion

This new model, with its white rubber dial and strap and multicoloured red gold hour-markers, takes up the aesthetics of the original 1960s version of the SuperOcean Slow Motion. This term comes from an invention made by Willy Breitling at the time. His main objective was to ensure perfect, safe readability underwater, whatever the depth of the dive. In his opinion, a minute counter was too small and did not allow easy reading underwater at a glance, so he decided to use the main chronograph hand to indicate the dive time. To do this, Willy Breitling created a unique new calibre called "Slow Motion". This term comes from the fact that the hand used for diving goes round the dial in slow motion, i.e. in one hour instead of one minute. Hence the rather clever name of the SuperOcean Slow Motion.
