Launched in 2018 by the French watchmaking house HERBELIN, the Cap Camarat collection takes its name from a cape on the southern Saint-Tropez peninsula. Inscribing the brand's watchmaking heritage in a contemporary style, it continues to be enriched over time, until in 2022 it will offer a watch with a square case. Seductive by virtue of its racy design, it was a resounding success. Introduced in a quartz version, the Cap Camarat Square is now equipped with an automatic movement. Still neo-vintage in an urban spirit, this new timepiece thus meets the expectations of lovers of fine mechanics, while offering wearable versatility through its sport-chic allure.

Square time

Structuring time in a square format with rounded corners, the stainless steel case (39 mm x 39 mm) reveals a most geometric robustness, accentuated by the crown protection. Adorned with a bezel adorned with six decorative screws placed in the extension of the indexes, the whole is highlighted by a vertical brushed finish underlined by polished facets finalizing the watch's sporty elegance.

Alike its predecessor in terms of case design, the Cap Camarat Square automatic is certainly differentiated by its dial. Struck horizontally, the black background gives, by contrast, perfect legibility of the information. The bevelled hour markers and faceted rectangular hour and minute hands are covered in luminescent material, a typical 70's design inspired by the original model. Distinguished by its white color, the central second hand, meanwhile, punctuates an extremely precise minute track placed on the perimeter flange.

Equipped with a date window at 6 o'clock, this watch is mounted on a black high-performance FKM elastomer strap. Guaranteed for ten years thanks to its extremely resistant material, it has been designed specifically to fit the watch's case middle. Raised in the center and cut out on the sides, its shape echoes that of the existing metal bracelet. Still integrated into the case to respect the watchmaking codes of the time, it reinforces the charisma of the model while being very pleasant to wear thanks to its great suppleness.

A Swiss-made automatic mechanism

Water-resistant to 100 meters, this new HERBELIN timepiece was designed, conceived, hand-assembled, adjusted and tested in the company's workshops in the Jura mountains of Franche-Comté. Inheriting French watchmaking expertise handed down from father to son for over 75 years, it features a Swiss-made self-winding mechanical movement, a guarantee of quality and reliability: the Sellita SW 200-1. Appreciated by specialists for its robustness and endurance, this caliber, clocked at 4 Hz (28,800 vib/h), has a power reserve of 38 hours. Watchmaking aficionados will appreciate the transparent caseback, allowing them to admire the workings of the mechanism, including the HERBELIN-engraved oscillating weight.

Revisiting today a HERBELIN heritage model from the 1970s, the Cap Camarat Square is unlikely to go unnoticed, displaying in all distinction, an assertive differentiating aestheticism.
