In 2024, Jaeger-LeCoultre continues to expand the Polaris line, with its new Polaris Date! This new model unveils a new gradient lacquered dial in an original ocean grey color, which accentuates the collection's casual, contemporary refinement, while underlining the sporty, utilitarian character of this diver's watch. A toolwatch ideal for everyday adventures...
The story
There are standard diving watches, and then there are Jaeger-LeCoultre diving watches. Planned in 1962, 1714 Memovox Polaris watches were produced between 1965 and 1970. It was equipped with several types of dial and hands, depending on the market for which it was intended. Minute variations in numerals, indexes and signatures today arouse the passion of the most fervent collectors...
Polaris collection: the signature elegance of Jaeger-LeCoultre sport version
By reviving the historic Polaris name in 2018, the Maison has redefined the modern sport-chic watch with an all-new line designed for everyday adventures. Skillfully balancing the practical functions and rugged capabilities of sports watches with Jaeger-LeCoultre's iconic elegant and timeless aesthetic, the Polaris collection pays heartfelt tribute to the Manufacture's eponymous diving watches, launched in the 1960s.
With their high-performance calibers and distinctive styling, Polaris creations capture the sporting spirit of their ancestors while reinterpreting their vintage charm in an elegant, resolutely contemporary style. New classics with extreme versatility.
The "Polaris Date" diver: Sporty and utilitarian
Launched in 2018, the year of the collection's rebirth, the Polaris Date embodies the pinnacle of sporty elegance. Its links to the design of the Maison's classic diving watches of the 1960s are reflected in the stripped-down modernity of its dial and its signature double crown - one to set the time and the other to rotate the inner bezel.
On this new model, the Grande Maison has kept the 42 mm case, which takes up the emblematic design codes of the Polaris collection: off-center crown, powerful lines, domed glass, narrow bezel and a dynamic mix of satin and polished surfaces.
A unique dial and optimal legibility
This design is complemented by the singular and complex architecture of the dial, as the latter is extremely complex to create. To begin with, work is carried out to give it its sunburst and grained finishes. Then, 35 layers of different lacquers are applied to create the double gradation and give depth to the background. Finally, the dial is meticulously polished to perfection. The result? A sublime "ocean grey" gradation, from the lightest to the darkest, to accentuate the visual depth and liveliness of this dial. Finally, discreet touches of orange recall the sporty spirit of this piece.
Finally, legibility is paramount on a diver's watch, which is why Jaeger-Lecoultre was keen to promote the readability of the Polaris Date, without making the slightest compromise on its design. For example, the harmonious balance of opaline, grained and sunrayed surfaces defines every key part of the dial. The skeletonized hands, assertively designed Arabic numerals and elongated trapezoid indexes, are all coated with SuperLuminova for optimal legibility in low-light conditions and stand out perfectly day or night.
A toolwatch of absolute reliability
Like the 1968 Memovox Polaris that inspired the collection, the Polaris Date features a rotating internal bezel, controlled by the crown positioned at two o'clock. It can be used to measure synchronization offsets or to perform countdowns. This useful function is complemented by a date display at 3 o'clock. Water-resistant to 200 meters, it's as suited to an urban environment as it is to the depths of the ocean.
The Polaris Date features a black rubber strap equipped with a quick-change system and interchangeable buckle. In just a few seconds, easily change your strap!
Caliber side
Equipped with the new-generation Calibre 899, entirely created in-house and highly efficient, the Polaris Date offers a 70-hour power reserve, as well as the latest innovations from the Manufacture. The sapphire crystal caseback reveals the movement's magnificent decorations, including an openworked oscillating weight, Côtes de Genève and circular graining. Very practical for today's active lifestyles...
