The story

At the beginning of 2000, after 20 years of collaboration and a collection with a futuristic design, the partnership between Porsche Design and IWC came to an end. This followed the takeover of the Eterna company by the Porsche family, who would take over the manufacture of the Porsche Design watch itself.

IWC wasn't resting on its laurels and was quick to find a successor to Porsche Design. In 1999, at the Vicenza trade fair in September, Schaffhausen's International Watch Company presented its new watch collection. The name? GST, for Gold, Steel and Titanium. This launch is clearly a pure IWC product. A classic design that recalls a more massive version of its "Portuguese" watch, a case cut at right angles that gives it a very functional appearance, a certain coolness... these elements fit perfectly into the spirit of IWC.

Unfortunately for fans of watch design, this collection had a short lifespan of just 4 years. But its legacy remains very enjoyable and this range of watches reflected the brand's commitment to complicated watchmaking, with a refreshing take on the chronograph.

The model

Resisting the allure of this remarkably light and strikingly beautiful IWC chronograph is a challenge. With a diameter of just 39 mm, this neo-vintage model offers a captivating, subtle charm, while offering a host of functional features. Crafted in lightweight titanium with a discreet matte finish, this timepiece makes this already seductive timepiece even a little more special.

The GST chronograph case is undeniably eye-catching, but it's the dial of this IW3707 reference that really seduces. On a matte black dial, a full chronograph with three sub-dials, accompanied by a window displaying day and date at three o'clock, offers the wrist a well-filled, incredibly useful, aesthetically balanced and highly legible watch. A monochrome color palette is subtly employed here, both in terms of style and legibility.

With its 6-9-12 vertical chronograph configuration and day/date window at 3 o'clock, no doubt to all watch enthusiasts on the mechanical side! Indeed, we find the IWC caliber 7922, based on the famous Valjoux 7750 automatic caliber, offering renowned reliability that will defy the tests of time for many decades to come.

This early 2000s watch will be delivered to you in an IWC pouch. This chronograph received a full service at IWC in 2020, so it is in excellent condition. This model has been authenticated and checked by our watchmaker and as such benefits from our Lepage Vintage 1-year warranty.
