Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Control Hometime yellow gold automatic 40 mm
In 2004, the Manufacture du Sentier presented its latest generation of automatic movements developed in-house: the Autotractor family. With its calibre 975, the Master Hometime offers the possibility of keeping a reference time and another official time such as GMT.
The model
The first watch to house the new Autotractor movement, the Master Hometime is inspired by the Jaeger-LeCoultre automatic round watches of the 1950s. Elegant and robust, refined and high-performance, it comes in a 40 mm rose gold case. Symbolizing the globetrotter's watch of the new millennium, it was, on its release, destined to become the new classic of modern mobility.
Like the Master Control timepieces, it has passed the 1000 Hours Control test that the Sentier manufacture imposes on all watches in its lineage.
This Master Hometime watch displays a travel time zone as its main function. Operated by the single setting crown located at 3 o'clock, the hour hand moves forwards or backwards, in jumps of one hour, until it reaches the new "travel time": i.e. the local time in force in the place where its owner is at the precise moment.
The Master Hometime watch thus offers the option of retaining a reference time, be it the local time of departure, or an official time such as Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) or Universal Time Coordinated (UTC). The date setting logically follows the hour hand of the travel time zone, both forwards and backwards. As for the 24-hour indication, it's associated with the reference time, so you know at all times whether it's day or night at home.
The caliber
This watch is powered by a JLC 975 caliber, visible through its sapphire caseback. Dubbed Autotractor, it is the first of a new family of robust movements and was introduced in 2004.
This Manufacture automatic dual time-zone movement is made up of 230 parts. It operates at 28800 vph, has 29 jewels and offers a 48-hour power reserve. This Autotractor movement uses ceramic ball bearings for the rotor, increasing durability and extending the service interval. It also dispenses with the bidirectional winding gear found on most previous Jaeger-LeCoultre movements, favoring a unidirectional rotor for reasons of durability and improved power transmission. The balance spring, supplied by A. Lange & Söhne, a sister company within the Richemont Group, is laser-welded to the balance wheel. The balance is adjusted by means of four screws, and the balance cock has been replaced by a screwed bridge.
