In 2019, Manufacture Grand Seiko launched a collection of four models for the U.S. market, inspired by the Nature of Time and the 24 sekki, the Japanese seasons marking the perpetual change of nature.Today marks the worldwide launch of these four timepieces to complete the Heritage collection.

The model we are featuring is the SBGH271, called Rikka, and represents the beginning of summer. As spring turns to summer, the earth becomes green and lush. A refreshing summer zephyr blows over the fields and meadows. In Japanese, this refreshing wind is called kunpu. The rich green dial of this model captures a summer moment to be savored forever.

It is during this season that rice is sown (Bōshu) and the night is shortest (Geshi). As the heat intensifies (Shōsho), summer ends with the hottest day of the year (Taisho).

An iconic design

The design of this SBGH271 is based on the legendary 62GS, Grand Seiko's first automatic watch launched in 1967. This timepiece became very popular thanks to its striking design featuring a mirrored, multi-faceted case and a very open dial, achieved through a bezel-less construction and Grand Seiko's signature Zaratsu polishing technique. Pure, refined and noble, the 62GS is a precious classic.

This SBGH271 is powered by a Manufacture 9S85 self-winding caliber. This high-frequency movement demonstrates the expertise and mastery of the Japanese brand in the design of Hi-Beats movements. Indeed, few watchmakers propose to take up this challenge, because a faster rotation speed can affect the power reserve, or even the longevity of the movement itself.With 50 years of experience, and the result of many years of development and research, this movement produced at the Shizukuishi Watch Studio offers a precision of -3 to +5 seconds per day, as well as a power reserve of 55 hours.
