Getting to know you

The "modern" history of Panerai began in 1993 with the release of the Luminor Marina in 40mm and 44mm sizes, accessible for the first time to everyone and not only to the armed forces. The model presented here, a Luminor Marina 1950 3 Days, was first shown at the "O'Clock - time design, design time" exhibition and is a perfect illustration of the alliance between design and technology embodied by Panerai watches.

In fact, it has the characteristic features of the Luminor, with the 1950s-style case and its rounded "cushion" shaped case center, derived from the Radiomir case. This PAM is one of the most appreciated by the brand's aficionados, as its simple design faithfully respects the Panerai tradition: a matte black dial with "sandwich" construction and small second at 9 o'clock, and a 1950s Luminor case modernized thanks to its brushed and polished finish.

The Model

The distinctive case design is inspired by a rare historical model and features a distinctly rounded case center with spikes. This historically significant feature testifies to the transformation of the Radiomir case into a Luminor case in the early 1950s. The Luminor Marina 1950 3 Days - 47mm features a 47mm steel Luminor 1950 case with the classic lever protecting the satinized steel crown.

The black dial is typically Panerai, with a small second at nine o'clock and the classic sequence of large numerals and hour markers. The dial has a "sandwich" structure with the ecru Super-LumiNova layer between the two plates, which appears in the openings in front of the indexes and numerals, giving the dial maximum clarity and depth. The inscriptions "Luminor Marina" and "Panerai" are engraved in cursive script, completing the dial design.

This model is powered by the hand-wound P.3001 caliber movement, which was entirely developed in the Neuchâtel manufacture. This movement features large bridges, two barrels that ensure a three-day power reserve, and a 13.2 mm variable inertia balance that can be adjusted by screws on the outer ring. As the movement is visible through the case-back glass, the wearer can also consult the power-reserve indicator placed on the main bridge.

The packaging
