About the Datejust II

The Rolex Datejust, introduced in 1945, was the first wristwatch to display the date in an aperture on the dial. This watch remains a must-have for many enthusiasts, but its 36mm diameter was not suitable for all wrists. So in 2009, almost 65 years after its first appearance, Rolex launched the Datejust II as a successor to the original Datejust. At the time, it distinguished itself by translating the Datejust aesthetic into a 41mm format for the first time. While it retained the classic Datejust aesthetic that the brand had introduced since the collection's inception, it notably featured a proportionally larger lugset, longer lugs, and a thicker bezel compared to the original 36mm model.

In 2012, an all-steel version was introduced with a smooth bezel and Oyster bracelet. A timepiece that, beneath its veneer of simplicity, hides a formidably effective design. Ultimately, the Datejust II was short-lived, replaced seven years after its introduction in 2016 by the Rolex Datejust 41, which returned to the original, more tapered silhouette of the original 36mm watch.

During its seven-year production run, some fifteen variants were produced, including "Rolesor" cases, multiple dial colors with applied indexes or Roman numerals, and a choice of smooth or fluted bezels. Although they varied greatly during their short production run, all these watches share certain common elements, including a 41mm "Oyster" case, water resistance to 100m and a date window at three o'clock enlarged by a "Cyclops" window.

Its 41mm Oyster case, guaranteed water-resistant to 100 meters, is an example of robustness. Without the traditional fluted bezel, its design is more sporty and less elegant. The crown, equipped with the patented Twinlock double water-resistance system, is securely screwed to the case.

This model comes with a 904L steel "Oyster" bracelet with "Oysterclasp" deployant clasp. Developed and patented by Rolex, this bracelet offers remarkable comfort and ease of use. It also features the "Easylink" quick extension link, an ingenious system that makes it easy to adjust the length of the bracelet by approximately 5 mm for added comfort in all circumstances.

On the mechanical side, this Datejust II is powered by the caliber 3136, a mechanical self-winding movement entirely designed and manufactured by Rolex. Like all Perpetual movements, the 3136 is chronometer-certified, a title reserved for superior precision watches that have passed the tests of the Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres (COSC).
