The story

The Mille Miglia is a spellbinding automotive odyssey through Italy's picturesque countryside, where roaring cars whizz through the verdant valleys of Tuscany, flanked by timeless villages perched on hills bathed in light. The heady scent of olive groves and vineyards mingles with the electrifying excitement of competition. That's how to describe the 1,600 kilometers of the Mille Miglia race. It's all this at once: an anthological event, which Enzo Ferrari didn't hesitate to describe as "corsa più bella del mondo"! A unique gathering of over 400 historic cars and their drivers!

In 2018, Chopard celebrated three decades of partnership with the Mille Miglia race,. This alliance in the world of classic motorsport, which harks back to Chopard co-president Karl-Friedrich Scheufele's passion for classic cars, finds its extension with the 2019 Mille Miglia Race Edition.

Since 1988, Chopard has been associated with this legendary competition as its main partner. In particular, this has resulted in the Mille Miglia watch collection, which has taken an important place in the house's catalog.

The model

Robust and high-performance, this Mille Miglia 2019 Race Edition is part of the Mille Miglia GTS collection introduced in 2015. This GTS line integrates the codes of the past into contemporary, uncompromising watches. As such, it offers a resolutely sporty character with deliciously retro accents, in the image of the rally from which it draws its inspiration.

This version features a generous 44mm case with screw-down back and water resistance to 100 meters. The caseback is engraved with the Mille Miglia logo on a black PVD-treated checkerboard pattern reminiscent of the race marshal's flag. The watch is also functional, with two ergonomically designed chronograph push-buttons. The hands and hour markers are coated with Superluminova, ensuring perfect legibility of time indications in all circumstances.

On its azure ruthenium-gray dial are two chronograph counters, positioned on the vertical axis with minutes at 12 o'clock and hours at 6 o'clock, they are displayed in anthracite gray with white decal, in perfect contrast to the dial including the small seconds at 9 o'clock. Red color codes for the hands and black on the counters, bezel and flange distinguish the chronograph functions. The date display, positioned for the first time under a domed crystal, reflects the same concern for legibility.

To ensure performance and efficiency, this Migla 2019 Mille is powered by a COSC-certified automatic chronograph movement. It offers 48 hours of power reserve and is clocked at 28,800 vibrations/hour to ensure short time measurement to 1/8th of a second. Very useful for reading and enabling calculation of average racing speed thanks to its polished black aluminum tachometer scale.

Finally, this watch is adorned with a cognac-colored perforated calfskin racing-style leather strap with a rubber lining that features a 1960s Dunlop tire relief ensuring maximum comfort when worn!
