The basics

The TAG Heuer Carrera chronograph was launched in 1962 in the paddocks and pit area of the "12 Hours of Sebring", where Jack Heuer, present as official timekeeper, first heard of the famous Mexican "Carrera Panamericana" race. This race, also known as the "Pan-Am", has been considered particularly dangerous since its inception.

This chronograph then pays tribute to the decisive contributions made by TAG Heuer in the field of automotive timekeeping, and its partnerships with the greatest car manufacturers. If one were to cite important innovations, they include the Time of Trip (1911), the first on-board chronograph for automobiles; the Mikrograph (1916), the first sports counter accurate to 1/100th of a second; and the Autavia (1933), the first 12-hour on-board counter designed for the Automotive and Aviation sectors.

The priority of the Carrera collection has always been absolute legibility, Jack Heuer's obsession. It's this focus on legibility and precision that has made the Carrera an instant success, embraced by watch and motorsport enthusiasts alike, acclaimed for its timeless design and sleek style. Relaunched in 1996 and completely reinterpreted in 2002, the Carrera is one of TAG Heuer's most emblematic creations. It has been worn by hundreds of drivers, including Juan Manuel Fangio, Kimi Räikkönen and Lewis Hamilton.

This reference CBG2A1Z.BA0658 was presented on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the Carrera. It could well be the "Porsche" of chronograph watches. Elegant and sporty, it is also reliable and robust. This version has a 45 mm steel case, an unusual diameter for Heuer 02 calibers. This new model retains the codes and DNA of the Heuer Carrera, including the original 3-6-9 counter layout from 1963. The chronograph minutes and hours are at 3 and 9 o'clock respectively, the small permanent seconds at 6 o'clock and the date aperture at 4:30, with the addition of the GMT function. This was the first time TAG Heuer had added this complication to its prestigious manufacture movement.

There's a skeletonized dial topped by a sapphire crystal, as well as a black and blue ceramic bezel with 24-hour scale. What appeals most is undoubtedly the view of the gears of its automatic movement, bringing an extra sporty note to this model. Its sturdy steel bracelet will follow the curves of your wrist perfectly, for comfortable wear in any circumstance.

At caliber level, we find the Heuer 02, which offers numerous advantages including: an 80-hour power reserve, a vertical clutch associated with a column wheel to bring greater precision as well as fluid handling of the push-buttons as well as a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour for optimal precision.
