To celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Newport collection, Herbelin is offering a special edition: the Maréographe! This model embodies the design, elegance and technical expertise of the French watchmaker.
Against all odds
Celebrating the 35th anniversary of Newport throughout 2023, French watchmaker HERBELIN is continuing the adventure by expanding the collection with a new model closely linked to the marine universe: the Newport Maréographe 35e anniversaire. What makes it special? This timepiece indicates the time and level of the tides according to the movements of the moon. Useful for sailors, surfers, swimmers and seaside strollers alike, this unusual watchmaking complication is very easy to use. Here's how it works
A tide level indicator
Trimmed in sunny Newport blue, the dial is divided into four zones representing a tidal cycle, with each phase inscribed on the inner circle. With water rising and receding on average every 12 hours and 25 minutes, the tide hand finalized by a red anchor respects this rhythm. Each index represents an interval of 62 minutes and 5 seconds, so it makes a complete turn in 12:25. Set from a tide table (available on the internet or from the harbor master's office), this allows you to visualize, at a glance, the state and position of the tide (rising or falling, high or low tide).
Small example: It's 10:07 locally. The tide chart announces high tide at 2:07 pm, i.e. 4 hours after local time. Using the pusher at 2 o'clock, simply position the tide hand 4 hours before the "high tide" indication, i.e. at 8 o'clock. At 2:07 p.m., the tide hand will show high tide as described in the tide table. Once set, the watch requires no further intervention, unless the wearer changes geographical location.
In addition to this information specific to the tideograph function, the dial features a discreet date aperture at 4:30, while revealing a "small seconds" counter at 2 o'clock. A running indicator, it complements the precision of the minute track, which has two readouts: one for the minutes, the other for the tide cycle. Offering optimal legibility, the whole is traversed by a set of hands covered in luminescent material, identical to the indexes.
A distinctive marine DNA
Inspired by the futuristic architecture of stealth ships, the Newport Maréographe 35th Anniversary remains true to the Newport DNA, making this timepiece instantly recognizable: central lugs, bezel imposing in its width, marine wheel engraved on the notched crown. All this is orchestrated on a 43 mm steel case, whose polished and brushed finish highlights its three-faceted cut-out. Highlighted by a bezel punctuated with six screws evocative of sailing boat winches, its caseback is engraved with the words "35th Anniversary".
Water-resistant to 100 meters, this HERBELIN novelty is mounted on a bracelet, domed at the center, made from a highly resistant technical textile, identical to that used for marine rope. Matching the dial in blue with white stitching and red bridle dots, it completes the model's sporty-chic style.
Simple to set, easy to use, this timepiece embeds a Swiss-made quartz movement, a guarantee of precision and reliability (Ronda). Reserved as a preview for the French house, it offers a 60-month autonomy.
Interpreting traditional French watchmaking know-how handed down, from father to son, for over 75 years, the Newport Maréographe 35th Anniversary is Made in France for having been designed, conceived, hand-assembled, regulated and controlled in the HERBELIN workshops located in the Jura mountains of Franche-Comté. A fine tribute to the Newport collection, this watch is the brand's first to feature a tideograph function. So you can anticipate the ebb and flow of the tides without making a mistake!
