Seiko presents a new model in the 5 Sports collection: a limited edition watch created in collaboration with Japanese skateboarder Yuto Horigome.

An iconic collection

Appearing in the 60s, Seiko 5s were at the time a new standard in the world of affordable mechanical watches. Many watch enthusiasts even discovered watchmaking thanks to one of these models that was as affordable as it was robust and reliable! Synonymous with reliability, durability and performance, these values are unquestionably appreciated by mechanical watch enthusiasts the world over.

For some time now, Seiko has been collaborating with several other Japanese and international companies to create limited edition collaborations. These have included tributes to Brian May, Naruto watches, Street Fighter and Ultra Seven. Today, Seiko is collaborating with Japanese skateboarding champion Yuto Horigom, for a limited edition of 6,000. A model with street and sport style!

Street inspiration!

For this special edition, Seiko takes as its base the Seiko 5 Sports model: 42.5 mm in diameter and 134 mm thick. But it was Yuto Horigome who selected the colors, materials, finishes and graphics to create an original customized watch. For a street look, the steel case is given a "Full Black" finish with a carbonized titanium coating, giving an almost matte appearance.

For the first time in the SKX series, a "camouflage" pattern is used on the dial. The dial's radiant finish is combined with a three-dimensional stamped pattern to create a highly textured look. The watch also features a silicone strap, ideal for sporting activities.

Finally, this limited edition watch features Yuto Horigome's signature on the caseback alongside the words "LIMITED EDITION" and the serial number. And like most limited-edition watches from Seiko, the watch is presented in a special box again bearing Yuto Horigome's signature.

Portrait of this Seiko ambassador

Born in Tokyo on JANUARY 7, 1999, Yuto began skateboarding at the age of 6, under the guidance of his father, himself a skateboarder.

As a child, Yuto was already gliding along vertical ramps, and placing high in the rankings of local competitions by his pre-teens. His experience abroad was substantial, however, and his talents only came to the fore once he moved to the USA after high school. And while it's an achievement in itself to earn the right to take part in the Street League, the most prestigious of competitions, Yuto's first participation brought him remarkable results. He achieved his first victory in 2018 and was instantly recognized as one of the very best, winning three tournaments that same year. Yuto is also a leading contender for the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics. Yuto's time has come.

Technical side

This Seiko 5 Sports embeds the self-winding Manufacture caliber 4R36. This is one of the Japanese firm's must-have movements, which is notably used in most Presage and Prospex watches. It beats at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour and offers a 42-hour power reserve. Designed to be reliable and robust, its construction is as simple as possible. What's more, it offers a most appreciable "Day / Date" complication!

In brief:

  • A dial unique to this edition
  • A Manufacture caliber
  • A limited edition of 6,000
