Seiko presents its new Astron GPS Solar collection, simpler and sleeker than ever! This new watch always adapts to your time zone at the touch of a button to connect to the GPS satellite network. Ideal for the international traveler!
Seiko Astron: Always one step ahead of the rest
On December 25, 1969, Seiko marketed the world's very first quartz wristwatch: the Seiko Astron Quartz 35SQ. This watch was a real upheaval that changed the history of the global watch industry. In 2012, Seiko launched another revolutionary watch, marking a second phase of profound transformation. A world first once again: the Seiko Astron GPS Solaire. This watch, too, expresses the avant-garde spirit of Seiko founder Kintaro Hattori's motto to "Always be one step ahead". This new Astron sets new standards in high-precision innovation by succeeding, like its 1969 predecessor, in appropriating an existing technology in another form and adapting it to be worn on the wrist, in a watch that is the least bulky, lighter and thinner than anything previously imagined. Today, a decade later, the Astron GPS Solaire takes on a new dimension.
Opening to a new design
Since its launch in 2012, the Astron range has always been the pinnacle of precision and performance! And this new Astron collection shapes the future of the Seiko Astron GPS Solaire watch with an all-new clean, angular design!
The new collection has a dynamic look thanks to the octagonal case and faceted bezel with "hairline" finish, which contrasts with the polished sides. The angular lines of the case flow fluidly through the lugs to the integrated bracelet, whose sharp design helps give the watches a refined style. The bracelet tapers towards the clasp, reinforcing the overall harmony. The titanium of the 41.2 mm-diameter case and bracelet is covered with a scratch-resistant hard coating. The lightness of this material, as well as the low center of gravity of the case, give these watches a pleasant wearing comfort.
Where there's a new design, there's a new dial! The latter features a streamlined design with a single sub-dial at 8 o'clock that indicates GPS satellite reception as well as the watch's charge status, leap second data reception and airplane mode. Matching the color of the bezel, the 3D indexes, like the hour and minute hands, are Lumibrite-coated for optimum readability in all conditions. This blue dial features a pattern that evokes the quartz tuning forks used to develop the first Astron Quartz presented by Seiko in 1969.
A GPS Solaire caliber
This new watch is powered by a new GPS Solaire movement, caliber 3X62, equipped with a more sensitive solar sensor that allows greater design freedom and the use of a new polygonal shape for the design of this timepiece.
When time zone adjustment is required, a simple push of a button is all it takes, for the hands to move automatically and independently to indicate local time, including daylight saving time. The wearer can also choose to switch instantly between displaying the reference time and the local time zone, and vice versa, simply by pressing both push-buttons simultaneously. What's more, the caliber 3X62 connects up to twice a day to the GPS network to maintain its accuracy anywhere in the world (1 second difference every 100,000 years if it remains connected to the network.) What's more, there's no need to set the date - it's set automatically thanks to its perpetual calendar function, set to always have the right date until February 28, 2100.
The watch's battery life is six months on full charge, and two years if the GPS function is deactivated.
