Seiko Prospex Automatic Diver's "King Sumo Great Blue" PADI blue dial steel bracelet 45 mm
Seiko once again collaborates with the PADI association, reinventing its iconic diver's watch: the Sumo! With its imposing 45mm diameter, ceramic bezel, sapphire crystal and 6R35 caliber, it's one of the most attractive divers in the range, and even more so with this "Great Blue" dial!
Seiko and diving
Japanese Manufacture Seiko is known to watch enthusiasts as one of the most reliable and legitimate brands in the world of diving watches. Since the launch of its first diver's watch presented in 1965, Seiko has been dedicated to surpassing divers' expectations with its innovative technology, creating timepieces that will help you cope with deep-water obstacles in all four corners of the world, in a wide variety of situations. These timepieces have proved equal to the rigors of the environment and received praise from professional divers.
The collaboration with PADI
The PADI watch collection is exclusive to Seiko, which is the only global watch brand to design a range of professional diving watches in the official colors of the PADI logo. PADI (The Professional Association of Diving Instructors) is the world's leading scuba diving training organization. It brings together divers from all over the world who share the same passion for adventure and love of the ocean.
Reinterpretation of an icon: Sumo
This SPB375 reference uses as its base an iconic model from the Japanese brand, the "Sumo". First appearing in 2007, this watch has been christened Sumo by many fans of the brand. Why the nickname? Perhaps it was its muscular appearance, or the shape of its bezel, which resembles the Dohyo, the ring where Sumo fights take place. But the name stuck, and this watch has become an icon in Diver's Seiko collection! It is recognized as one of the most robust and reliable watches for divers.
This new release inherits the 2007 design, but improves on it with the addition of a superb ceramic bezel and diashield anti-scratch coating on the case and bracelet to reduce the appearance of scratches and scuffs. The bracelet design is also new, with a reinterpretation of the design of so-called "oyster" bracelets, while the clasp has been modernized. Finally, this watch is a special "PADI Great Blue" edition. The dial of this model was inspired by the view of a diver underwater, when the sun reflects and shines on the surface. The light-blue minute hand and bezel scale allow great legibility in deep water.
Technical side
This Prospex Diver's 200 King Sumo features the self-winding Manufacture caliber 6R35. This is one of the Japanese firm's must-have movements, which is notably used in most of the brand's watches. It beats at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour and offers a comfortable 72-hour power reserve, enabling you to alternate with your other watches without having to wind it systematically. Designed to be reliable and robust, its construction is as simple as possible. Complication-wise, you'll find the day and date in an aperture at three o'clock, very practical for everyday use!
This watch is also water-resistant to 200 meters, and complies with ISO diving standards. Its crown is sighted and the case is topped with a sapphire crystal.
