2023 marks the return of the world's most recognizable diver: the Ploprof! But this one is even more special, as it marks the 75th anniversary of the Seamaster collection...
Ploprof 1200M: The world's most recognizable diving watch
In 1970, OMEGA officially launched a watch designed to withstand the extreme pressures endured by divers operating at great depths. It was the Seamaster Professional 600, the famous "Ploprof" (for "professional diver"), one of the toughest and most reliable diver's watches ever produced.
The Ploprof stood out from the outset in terms of style. Its case could not be mistaken for any other: positioned at 9 o'clock, the screw-down crown was protected by a locking nut. Its unique positioning freed the wrist and prevented accidental manipulation.
The Ploprof's bi-directional rotating bezel is operated via the safety pusher at 2 o'clock, a signature feature of the range. The automatic helium valve, located on the case middle at 4 o'clock, allows helium atoms to escape during decompression and proves particularly useful for professional divers required to descend into diving bells. The Ploprof boasts an exceptional water resistance of 120 bars (1200 meters).
The return of the Ploprof in a new alloy!
This exceptional Ploprof, inspired by the original 1970s model, is crafted in O-MEGASTEEL, a new high-performance stainless steel alloy. This high-purity material has an even brighter polished appearance and a more intense white color. It is also more resistant and harder than conventional steel. The watch features OMEGA's exclusive Summer Blue sunray dial with a gradient finish which reflects the watch's water-resistance level. The bezel is topped by a sapphire crystal reminiscent of the chemically strengthened monolithic glass used on early versions. This transparent blue-varnished glass on the reverse reveals the light-blue diving scale below to reveal the light-blue diving scale below.
The iconic monobloc case features the famous screw-down crown and the characteristic safety push-piece at 2 o'clock, which sports a blue ceramic ring. True to the color code, OMEGA coats the varnished hands and indexes in light-blue Super-Luminova.
A commemorative caseback
To mark 75 years of the Seamaster collection, the back of this watch features a stamped version of the commemorative Seamaster logo depicting Poseidon equipped with a trident and two seahorses: the original OMEGA logo from 1956 and the House's current design. The logo was designed by Jean-Pierre Borle, who was inspired by a trip to Venice and the carved representations of Neptune's seahorse found at either end of the city's iconic gondolas.
This symbol reflects the collection's maritime heritage, refined style and robust spirit.
A Co-Axial caliber certified Master Chronometer
This watch is powered by Omega caliber 8912, a self-winding movement with Co-Axial escapement. Master Chronometer certified and METAS approved, this watch offers a 60-hour power reserve, precision between 0 and +5 seconds per day and resistance to magnetic fields up to 15,000 gauss.
