The story
A legend of Swiss watchmaking, the OMEGA Speedmaster "Moonwatch" has become a symbol of the conquest of space. It was used in all NASA manned space flights from the Gemini project to the ISS program. Approved by NASA on March 1, 1965 to accompany space missions, the Speedmaster chronograph became a legend on Buzz Aldrin's wrist in 1969 during the Apollo 11 mission. To this day, the Speedmaster "Moonwatch Professional" remains the only watch to have been to the moon, hence its nickname "The Moonwatch"
What you need to know
Presented in 1996, the "new Moonwatch" reference 3570.50.00 was identical to the watch worn by the Apollo 11 crew, with the exception of a few details such as the luminescent material used for the hands and indexes (Luminova rather than tritium) or the movement, caliber 1861, a modern version of the original 861 movement (itself an update of the legendary caliber 321) that uses 18 jewels instead of 17 and features a rhodium-plated finish. Apart from these technical updates, almost all other aesthetic details have been retained, including the hesalite crystal, the black dial with white accents, the combination of 30-minute, 12-hour and small seconds dials, and the solid, screw-down caseback.
But for two years of production (1996-1997) OMEGA continued to use tritium indexes and hands! The perfect combination of vintage and modern watch! As a result, it is aesthetically close to vintage models, with a unique patina, and at the same time has a reliable and robust caliber. It's sure to be a future classic among the many Speedmaster references!

Fittingly, it's one of these models we're offering in this 10h10: this Speedmaster is one of the very latest versions with a tritium dial.
