The design of this Presage Style 60's series is inspired by the Crown chronograph introduced in 1964, precisely as the official watch of the Tokyo Olympic Games. The Crown was then Japan's first wristwatch chronograph, and had several revolutionary new functions. At the time, it was manually wound and although it was triggered by a single push on the single pusher at 2 o'clock, Seiko's watchmakers chose to use a column wheel to increase the reliability of the chronograph function. A simple yet sophisticated watch. Already in 2020, it was the subject of a very clear evocation, with a brief limited series of 1964 pieces equipped with the 6R35 caliber.

This new model is based on the "Journey on the Road" theme, a vintage universe inspired by retro automobiles, and blends the vintage design of the 1964 creation with contemporary elements to create a collection with a retro touch perfect for modern times.

Journey on the Road

The new collection features the Crown chronograph with a box-shaped glass, faceted hour markers and sharp hands. A design infused with a soft feel that reveals a vintage 60s look. The retro automotive design is very present, with the dial inspired by the cockpit elements of a vintage car (steering wheel, speedometer, gearshift...).

The inner circular space of the dial and the outer surface with the indexes are subject to different finishing techniques, which improves readability and creates a warm vintage atmosphere with different expressions depending on the viewing angle. In addition, there is a new finish called "Rough Hairline". The 40.8mm steel case is delicately rounded as well as slightly curved to ensure wrist comfort. The lugs are carefully polished to a mirror finish, giving the watches a certain sharpness in their soft and delicate appearance, creating a perfect balance between modernity and vintage spirit.

This SSK013J1 reference features a beautiful matte black dial topped by a fixed black and gray aluminum GMT bezel. We find new indication with the presence of a date and a GMT "gold" hand. It is dressed with a perforated leather strap, similar to the bracelet worn by car drivers in the 50s and 60s! This brings a more vintage touch compared to the previous models. One thing is for sure, this modern watch is meant to be practical with a retro vintage look typical of the 1960s. We love it!

Technical side

This GMT is powered by an automatic caliber visible through the transparent case back. We find the brand new 4R34 movement from Seiko, which is based on the solid 4R, a real watchmaking tractor. Completely in line with the mission of the Seiko Presage line, this 24-jewel movement offers 41 hours of power reserve and operates with a frequency of 21,600 vibrations. This technical choice allows for a foolproof reliability, saving you from a regular service interval. If you are wondering, this GMT does not have an independent 12-hour hand. Instead, you can set the 24-hour hand by pulling the crown out to the first notch and turning it clockwise.
