Cartier Pasha Chronograph 2412 automatic 36 mm Full Set 2003
The first waterproof watch from the House of Cartier, the Pasha was born in the early 1930s and has been seducing all lovers of fine timepieces ever since. This automatic chronograph with a "panda" dial is a testament to its charm!
The origins
The Pasha has always attracted as much as it has fascinated. This model imagined by Louis Cartier himself, has never gone out of fashion. It has even become a symbol of it, one of timelessness and elegance, transcending eras and cultural backgrounds.
According to legend, the origin of this model begins in 1932, when the Pasha of Marrakech commissioned the House of Cartier to create a one-of-a-kind watch: a gold watch that was durable enough to keep up with the Pasha's active lifestyle, and that could boast a level of water resistance that was uncommon at the time.
In 1985, Cartier decided to invest in sporty and waterproof luxury watches, and wanted to reinvent the Pasha! To do so, the House called upon the most renowned watch designer of his time: Geral Genta, the father of the Royal Oak and the Nautilus. This would be one of his last truly "iconic" creations.
It is presented as a round watch with a large diameter (38 mm), with a large bezel, Vendôme lugs and a screwed crown held by a chain. It is thus different from the shaped watches present at Cartier.
This first generation of Pasha watches is initially available exclusively in precious metals, and declined in a wide range of complications: chronographs, GMT, moon phase and a perpetual calendar!
In 1990, five years after its launch, the brand introduced a steel watch line within the Pasha collection. All the details were retained, such as the 38mm case size and the screw-down crown cover. In 1995, to continue to appeal to a new, younger demographic, Cartier introduced a smaller version, with the introduction of the Pasha C. It's just one of these models that we're featuring today on this 10:10 episode!
A timeless model
The reference 2412 we present is a Pasha C Chronograph from 2003. This model was introduced in the early 1990s, and features the classic lines of the original 1985 Pasha in a smaller version. Indeed, this version features a 36mm case diameter and is equipped with a bracelet integrated with the case, with a sporty "H" link design.
This version is meant to be chic and sporty, especially in this unusual "panda" dial variation. Its silver hue has a "sunburst" finish with black counters to contrast a maximum. On the dial, there are bar indexes and a black tachymetric scale.
On the mechanical side, this Cartier Pasha C is powered by the ETA 2894 automatic movement, designated by Cartier as Calibre 047. This chronograph movement offers around 40 hours of power reserve.
