Move into the future

Since its inception, Ressence has aimed to bring a new vision of what Haute Horlogerie should be: visual, functional, young and agile. The Type 8 ticks these boxes and perfectly illustrates the brand's confident and contemporary approach. It is built on the fundamental principles dear to its founder Benoît Mintiens, demonstrating originality, accessibility and innovation. This sixth collection has been designed with a functional relevance that defines all the brand's watches: clarity, simplicity and ergonomics are the key words. This extreme simplicity represents the modernisation of Haute Horlogerie.

A familiar design

The Type 8 case does not revolutionize Ressence's design. We still find an ultra-modern and elegant case with slender lines and a deceptive simplicity. Entirely made of grade five titanium, the 42.9 mm case contributes to an extreme overall lightness: including the strap, the watch weighs only 42 grams. Thanks to the extreme solidity of the titanium and the unique curved shape of its dial, the watch makes no concessions on robustness or resistance despite its weight. The case has a sandwich architecture with a two-tone finish in glossy and satin aspects. The case has no visible lugs, which are concealed under a small flange that protrudes from the case body. The overall effect is a compact, integrated case volume that leaves the strap exposed with no visible attachment. However, this is a detail that makes it Ressence's most minimalist creation.

Extreme simplicity

The Type 8 is the simplest watch produced by the brand to date, and its minimalism comes from its time indications. Indeed, the watch indicates only the hours and minutes. A graphic simplicity reduced to the essential, without any text or numbers. The sage green dial of this Type 8 S is reduced to the vital minimum. Simple white stick markers display the time with perfect clarity. The hour and minute markers and hands are highlighted with blue SuperLuminova for perfect visibility in low light.

As with all Ressence watches, the Type 8 dial rejects any traditional notion of hands on a central axis. Indeed, the main dial is a domed titanium element that rotates to indicate the minutes. Inside it and on the same spherical plane, a smaller dial turns to mark the hours. The whole dial is thus in perpetual motion while allowing an intuitive display, readable at a glance and from any angle.

A watch without a crown

In line with Ressence's previous designs and the company's founding principle of ergonomic design, the Type 8 has no visible crown to distinguish between right- and left-handed wear. It is the case back that rotates to set the time. When setting the time, the rotation of the case back also winds the mechanical movement. The ambidextrous design of the watch, together with its slim, organic shape and light weight, make it a comfortable object to wear on any wrist.

The Ressence Orbital Convex System (ROCS 8)

The unique time display is only possible with the patented ROCS 8 system, which has been designed with a series of ruby gears and ball bearings to ensure long-lasting, oil-free operation. This module replaces hands with rotating dials and demonstrates Ressence's mechanical ingenuity, paving the way for a new future for traditional mechanical watchmaking. This module is powered by a traditional ETA calibre 2892/2 automatic mechanical movement with 36 hours reserve, which has been extensively customized and strengthened to suit Ressence's requirements.
