Tudor Submariner Date 9411/0 automatic 40 mm Full Set 1978 with Watch Certificate
This Submariner 9411/0 shares the same name as its big sister, adding its own DNA: a dial with square indexes, "Snowflake" hands and a blue insert.
The pitch
From 1969 begins the second era of the history of TUDOR Submariner. It would last until 1999, when they last appeared in the catalog. While the general foundations of the model were laid by the 7900 series, the latter did not stop its evolution for all that. From a technical point of view, the movements used until then are replaced by automatic movements ETA. From an aesthetic point of view, the TUDOR "Submariner" was given a new face in 1969. Developed for the specific needs of diving, it is characterized by new dials with square indexes and hands of the same shape, known to collectors as "Snowflake". It would remain there until 1981.
All in all, from 1969 to 1999, it is more than 20 different references with many variations, retaining the main characteristics specific to the TUDOR Submariner, will be produced. But the ones that interest us today are the references 9401/0 and 9411/0.
It was in the mid-1970s that the Tudor Submariner references 9401/0 and 9411/0 were introduced, to succeed the references 7016 and 7021. These two models host the ETA 2776 (without date) and and ETA 2784 (with date) calibers, more efficient movements that notably allow for a finer time setting thanks to a stop function for the seconds hand.
Several dial and bezel combinations are available on these references:Blue or black dial, "Snowflake" or "Mercedes" hands, with their respective blue or black bezels. The bracelets proposed with these references are two: a Rolex Oyster, reference 7836/0, with folded links and a classic folding clasp and a Rolex Oyster, reference 9315/0, which is the same bracelet but with a folding clasp type "Fliplock" a system of extension blades allowing to enlarge the bracelet to adjust it on a diving suit. The diameter of the watch remains 39mm and the case lines do not change, still with a Rolex signature case back.
Chosen by the French Navy
The reference 9401 remains the most famous TUDOR dive watch used by the French Navy, with its famous combination: blue dial / insert and its "snowflake" hands this configuration was the most chosen by the French Navy because it offers Optimal readability. This model remained in production and was delivered to the French Navy until the 1980s. It was used until the 2000's by the Navy's diving school and combat swimmers. Although officially decommissioned about fifteen years ago, it can sometimes still be seen today on the wrists of reservists.
Getting to know each other
The piece we are offering today is a "Submariner Date" version reference 94110 blue configuration. The watch has a beautiful patina, with a bezel that has faded over time. All its parts are original, and there is a bracelet reference 7836/0. The only thing that has been changed is the luminescent bezel bead, which has been replaced for a Luminova bead.
