Getting to know each other

The Rolex Submariner 5513 are among the most iconic models from the brand with the crown. Introduced to the Rolex catalog in 1962, the 5513 Submariner reference remained in continuous production until 1989, making it one of the most legendary Submariners in the eyes of vintage collectors. It is also one of the oldest Rolex references in the brand's history, with over twenty years of production.

This particular reference is often taken as a source of inspiration for other dive watches, indeed the Submariner 5513 is so iconic that its shape, design and dial have become "must-haves" for any watch calling itself a diver! Initially produced with a gilt lacquered dial, the reference 5513 changed to a matte dial around 1966. But before it was replaced by the reference 14060, the 5513 was "modernized" by returning to a "glossy" dial with white gold circled indexes. This configuration offers the best of both worlds, a modern aesthetic with a truly vintage construction. Not to mention the soft patina that tritium has taken on over the past 35 years.

The Submariner we're featuring today ticks all the boxes of what we love about vintage Sub'! Indeed, this 1986 example offers us a black Bicchierini "Submariner At the Top" dial with a homogeneous, cream patina for a much appreciated vintage look. For those new to vintage Rolex watch collecting, this type of dial is so called because the Submariner line is inscribed before the "660 ft = 200m". Also, you will observe that the lacquer on the dial is starting to transform at the tritium level. We can't wait to see the evolution of its patina!

As for its case, it is in excellent condition, and all of its parts are original. The only thing missing is the luminescent bead on the bezel.
