The Manufacture in Biel presents its latest version of the Speedmaster Racing, the "Super" with a sporty design paying tribute to the anniversary of the Seamaster Aqua Terra >15,000 GAUSS. It is also equipped with Omega's latest technology for ultimate precision, the Spirate system, offering a precision of 0/+2 seconds. A true horological feat for a Speed Super Racing!
A decade of innovation and precision
Since the beginning of watchmaking history, the watchmaker's raison d'être has been to seek to improve the precision of movements, to achieve perfect chronometry. This never-ending quest is in the DNA of the Omega Manufacture, which is constantly seeking to innovate and respond to increasingly technical challenges. Several of its inventions have truly transformed the world of watchmaking, and today Omega is still pushing the boundaries of precision once again!
In 2013, Omega presented the first step in its journey to higher levels of anti-magnetism and precision. With a model based on the Seamaster Aqua Terra, the brand developed a watch capable of withstanding magnetic fields of up to 15,000 gauss. This Aqua Terra exceeded the magnetic resistance of most, if not all, other watches, thanks to the use of proprietary non-magnetic alloys for key components of the movement. This was the first milestone in a story that would later, in conjunction with the brand's proprietary technology and its Co-Axial escapement, introduce Master Chronometer certification. A most demanding certification process: 8 tests over 10 days, in order to guarantee an unparalleled degree of precision and greater resistance to magnetic fields.
To celebrate this decade of precision watchmaking, Omega is writing a whole new chapter with this new Speedmaster Super Racing! A watch with a familiar design, built on the basis of the Speedmaster Racing. But behind its appearance lies a new spring and a new fine-tuning system: the Omega Spirate System! Let's go and discover this watchmaking revolution...
A Speedmaster with many winks!
Looking at this watch, you might find it quite familiar, as it retains the Speedmaster Racing case with its 44.25 millimeter diameter and 14.9 millimeter thickness. Forged from steel, it retains the Speedmaster's signature asymmetrical design with lyre lugs and brushed and polished surfaces. Its domed sapphire crystal is encircled by a black ceramic bezel with a Grand Feu enamel tachymeter scale.
This Super Racing features a "sandwich" dial with a laser-engraved upper plate of the honeycomb pattern and a lower plate coated with black DLC. It sports a checkered minute track that symbolizes this watch's connection to motorsports.
These design touches are meant to celebrate the 10th anniversary of another Omega watch: the Aqua Terra 15,000 Gauss. Indeed, fans of the brand probably remember the honeycomb pattern of the prototype watch that withstood 160,000 gauss, while the black and yellow striped hands on the counter placed at 9 o'clock are reminiscent of the 2013 Seamaster Aqua Terra.
The black diamond-polished beveled arrow markers are coated with Super-LumiNova emitting a yellow glow as well. This color coding is echoed on the Speedmaster and Super Racing markings on the dial.
.Finally, there is a discreet tribute to the number 10 in the date window at 6 o'clock. Once a month, the number 10 appears, using the same font as the Speedmaster logo.
A chronograph caliber with unmatched precision
The watch is powered by the OMEGA Co-Axial Master Chronometer caliber 9920, which meets the watch industry's highest performance criteria as determined by METAS. It is also the first movement in the world to feature OMEGA's patent-pending Spirate™ system. The setting of this watch can be fine-tuned to provide a certified accuracy of 0/+2 seconds per day. This chronometry may well be the best in class in the watch world!
This revolutionary new balance spring architecture and fine adjustment combines a silicon spring with a new eccentric adjustment system, with a cam acting on a flexible blade. This allows the watchmaker to adjust the rigidity of the balance spring attachment point through this eccentric adjustment mechanism located on the balance bridge. As a result, each notch allows for an adjustment as close as 0.1 seconds per day, a feat!
As for the caliber itself, it uses the architecture of the 99XX series, retains the 4Hz frequency and is resistant to magnetic fields of up to 15,000 gauss. This automatic Manufacture movement features a double barrel architecture with a 60-hour power reserve and combines a column wheel with a vertical clutch, all of which is complemented by a Co-Axial escapement now associated with this new Spirate balance spring.
An exceptional case
This collector's piece comes in a black Speedmaster case with yellow honeycomb pattern stitching. This unique case includes a black and yellow striped NATO strap and a tool to change the strap.
