Rolex GMT-Master 1675 automatic 40 mm Full Set 1974
It is hard to resist a Rolex 1675 and its legendary "pepsi" insert! The most emblematic reference of the GMT-Master, it has become an icon and an object of desire. This MARK 4 Full Set model of 1974 is the perfect example...
The brief history
With nearly 70 years of history, it is considered by many collectors to be one of the most important icons in the watchmaking world: the Rolex GMT-Master. When Rolex first introduced the reference 6542 in 1954 at the request of the American airline Pan Am, it was, along with the Glycine Airman, the first wristwatch to display a second time zone. It attracted attention in particular by the unique color scheme of the bezel with a 24-hour scale in red and blue "pespi" as well as a second hour hand.
In 1959, and until 1979, Rolex would produce the most iconic of all GMT-Masters: the reference 1675. Over the years, this reference would undergo several modifications and improvements. Many other inserts and dials were produced to suit different tastes, but the red and blue "Pepsi" insert will remain a great favorite. All of these modifications keep entire armies of Rolex GMT-Master experts busy, searching for the perfect gem!
What you need to know
If there were to be only one vintage Rolex GMT-Master, the reference 1675 would surely be the number one choice for collectors! The one we're offering today is a completely original version, which is incredible, not to mention exceptional!
It has a perfect 40mm case, and the crown has a small notch protected by the "rounded crown gards". The watch is equipped with a 7836 folded Oyster bracelet with 280 endlinks and a Red Back aluminum insert and its 8 oval. Nicely discolored, the bezel has a unique charm.
There is a Mark 4 dial that has a beautiful patina. Its domed Plexiglas, protects a Mercedes hand, a lollipop second hand as well as a "big GMT" and its painted indexes with an eggshell patina. Completely uniform, the set will continue to evolve over time. Behind the case back hides the caliber 1575 that will introduce the 19600 vibrations per hour frequency and the 48 hours of power reserve at Rolex.
