Rolex GMT-Master 1675 automatic 40 mm 1978 with Watch Certificate

The little story

With nearly 70 years of history, it is considered by collectors to be one of the most important icons in the watchmaking world: the Rolex GMT-Master. When Rolex first introduced the reference 6542 in 1954 at the request of the American airline Pan Am, it was, along with the Glycine Airman, the first wristwatch to display a second time zone. It attracted particular attention with its graduated bezel with "day/night" indication thanks to the now mythical blue and red, as well as an additional 24-hour hand.

In 1959, and until 1979, Rolex will produce the most emblematic of all GMT-Master: the reference 1675. Over the years, this reference will undergo several modifications and improvements. Many other inserts and dials were produced to suit different tastes, but the red and blue "Pepsi" insert will remain a great favorite. All of these modifications keep entire armies of Rolex GMT-Master experts busy, searching for the perfect gem!

What you need to know

If there were to be only one vintage Rolex GMT-Master, the reference 1675 would surely be the number one choice for collectors!

With its 40 mm case in perfect condition and equipped with a "Jubilee" bracelet reference 62510H with 555 endlinks. The aluminum insert is called "service" and displays beautiful bright colors.

We find a tritium dial (of service), which benefits from a light cream patina. Its curved acrylic glass protects a "Mercedes" hand, a "lollipop" second hand and a "big GMT". Completely uniform, the set will continue to evolve over time. Behind its new case back is the caliber 1575, which will introduce the 19,600 vibrations per hour frequency and the 48-hour power reserve at Rolex.
