Seiko collaborates once again with the PADI association, and reinvents its iconic diver: the Sumo!
Seiko and diving
The Japanese manufacturer Seiko is known to watch enthusiasts as one of the most reliable and legitimate brands in the world of diving watches. Since the launch of its first diver's watch in 1965, Seiko has been dedicated to exceeding divers' expectations with its innovative technology, creating timepieces that will help you face deep water obstacles in a wide variety of situations around the world. These timepieces have proven to be equal to the rigors of the environment and have received praise from professional divers.
Reinterpretation of an icon: Sumo
This reference SPB325 uses as a basis an emblematic model of the Japanese brand, the "Sumo". First released in 2007, this watch was named Sumo by many fans of the brand. Why this nickname? Perhaps it was its muscular appearance or the shape of its bezel which resembles the Dohyo, the ring where Sumo fights take place. But the name stuck, and this watch has become an icon in Diver's Seiko collection! It is recognized as one of the most robust and reliable watches for divers.
This new release inherits the 2007 design, but improves on it with the addition of a beautiful ceramic bezel and a diashield anti-scratch coating on the case to reduce the appearance of scratches and scuffs.
On this reference, we find a sublime black dial presenting the PADI name and its emblem in the background! It is topped with impressive Lumibrite-filled indexes, and is animated by large hands. The silicone accordion strap combines durability and comfort. This is a strap design invented by Seiko in 1975, which is intended to be a practical solution to the expansion and contraction of a diver's wrist at different depths.
Technical side
This Prospex Diver's 200 King Sumo is equipped with the manufacture caliber 6R35 with automatic winding. This is one of the Japanese firm's essential movements, which is used in most of the brand's watches. It beats at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour and offers a comfortable 72-hour power reserve, allowing you to alternate with your other watches without having to systematically wind it. Designed to be reliable and robust, its construction is as simple as possible. As for complications, the day and date are shown in a window at three o'clock, which is very practical for everyday use!
This watch is also water resistant to 200 meters, and meets the ISO diving standards. Its crown is sighted and the case is topped with a sapphire crystal.
The collaboration with PADI
The PADI watch collection is exclusive to Seiko, which is the only watch brand in the world to design a range of professional diving watches in the official PADI logo colors. PADI (The Professional Association of Diving Instructors) is the world's leading scuba diving training organization. It brings together divers from around the world who share a passion for adventure and a love of the ocean.
