An iconic collection

When it was created in 1968, the Seiko 5 Sports collection was a new standard in the world of affordable mechanical watches. Many watch enthusiasts even discovered watchmaking through one of these robust and reliable models! When the collection was relaunched in 2019, the choice was made to revitalize the collection by giving it a youthful and trendy feel. Today, the collection takes a new step forward with the introduction of a GMT caliber for the first time. Based on the proven 4R caliber platform, this new series of three models offers a GMT hand in a case that is only 0.1 mm thicker than the rest of the line, a real tour de force!

An "SKX" revolution

The design of the case and dial is inspired by Seiko's most famous sports watch. Its name? SKX! Released in 1996, it has become an iconic watch, released for collection in 2019. Owning or having owned an SKX is something that most collectors and watch lovers proudly share.

But now, SKX is back! On this SSK005 reference, we find the famous 42.5mm diameter steel case with its 4 o'clock crown guard. The orange sunray dial matches perfectly with the bi-directional bezel made of Hardlex which allows to distinguish the day and night hours at a glance. For optimal readability, all hands are filled with a large amount of Lumibrite, including the GMT hand.

The jubilee bracelet is a new design also inspired by the original SKX series, in which the middle rows are polished to create a contrast with the solid feel of the connecting rows.

Technical side

This GMT is powered by an automatic caliber visible through the transparent case back. It is powered by Seiko's brand new 4R34 movement, which is based on the solid 4R, a true watchmaking tractor.
Completely in line with the mission of the Seiko 5 line, this 24-jewel movement offers 41 hours of power reserve and operates with a frequency of 21,600 vibrations. This technical choice allows for a foolproof reliability, saving you from a regular service interval. If you are wondering, this GMT does not have an independent 12-hour hand. Instead, you can set the 24-hour hand by pulling the crown out to the first notch and turning it clockwise.
