Zenith gold-plated watch caliber 2540 mechanical 33 mm circa 1965
Vintage watch lovers will be delighted to admire this Zenith, a timelessly chic and classic model...
Close to the stars
When talking about vintage Zenith, collectors often think of the race to develop the first automatic El Primero chronograph movement introduced in 1969, a legendary caliber that still forms the cornerstone of the brand's modern catalog. However, when one delves deeper into the rich history of this brand, it quickly becomes apparent that there is much more to discover about the brand since its founding in 1865 in Le Locle.
Its founder, Georges Favre-Jacot, was one of the first Swiss watchmakers to bring all stages of watch production under one roof. In Le Locle, you can still find this same Zenith factory as well as Mr. Favre-Jacot's villa designed by Le Corbusier, one of the first houses designed by the Franco-Swiss architect and all-round designer.
The name of the Zenith Manufacture itself refers to the highest point of a star in the sky, a symbol of excellence for the company, which was to symbolize the heights the company would strive to reach. The symbol of Zenith is the guiding star, which can be found on the dial of this watch.
What you need to know
This Zenith is typical of the 1965-1969 production. It is recognizable thanks to its specific star at the top of the dial.
Still in its "juice", it remains authentic and beautifully patinated, and has hardly suffered the ravages of time. Its yellow gold plated case is in very good condition, as well as its nicely patinated dial, which demonstrate the care taken in its manufacture.
The watch is powered by a Zenith 2540 automatic caliber, produced in hundreds of thousands between 1965 and 1969, which is a reliable and robust engine that also explains the popularity of the brand among collectors and amateurs.
The package
This vintage watch is a beautiful mixed piece for watch lovers and those in the making. Its strap has been changed to a lizard leather strap.
