This Astron with its clean, angular style ushers in a new era for solar GPS watches! Technical, light and beautiful, it is the ideal watch for an international traveler!
Always one step ahead of the others
On December 25, 1969, Seiko released the world's first quartz wristwatch: the Seiko Astron Quartz 35SQ. This watch was a real disruption that changed the history of the global watch industry. In 2012, Seiko launched another revolutionary watch, marking a second phase of profound transformation. A world first once again: the Seiko Astron GPS Solar. This watch too is an expression of the forward-thinking spirit of Seiko founder Kintaro Hattori's motto to "Always be one step ahead." This new Astron sets new standards in high-precision innovation by succeeding, like its 1969 predecessor, in appropriating existing technology in a different form and adapting it to be worn on the wrist, in a watch that is the smallest, lightest and thinnest watch ever conceived. Now, ten years later, the Astron GPS Solaire takes on a new dimension.
Opening to a new future
Since its launch in 2012, the Astron collection has always been the ultimate in precision and performance. For its tenth anniversary, Astron comes in a new design for its new generation. A clean and angular new design for the ultimate traveler's watch!
This Astron GPS Solar 5X53 has a contemporary look thanks to its clean lines, slim profile and, above all, its compact, angular design that flows seamlessly from the case to the strap and lugs.
The titanium of the 42.7 mm diameter case and bracelet is covered with a scratch-resistant hard coating. The lightness of this material and the low center of gravity of the case make these watches comfortable to wear. The sapphire crystal bezel is narrow, so the eye is drawn to the midnight blue sunray dial. The hour markers stand proudly above the dial and are precision cut. They and the hour and minute hands are coated with Lumibrite to improve readability in low light conditions. The sapphire crystal has an anti-reflective coating that allows the time to be read at a glance from any angle.
The bracelet has also been reworked, with an "H" shaped link design, making it much more comfortable and falling perfectly on the wrist.
A Solar GPS gauge
This Astron is powered by Seiko's most technological and finest solar GPS movement, the 5X53 Dual-Time. When time zone adjustment is required, a simple push of a button is all it takes for the hands to automatically and independently move to indicate local time, including daylight saving time. The wearer can also choose to instantly switch between the reference time and local time zone display and vice versa by simply pressing both push buttons simultaneously. In addition, the 5X53 caliber connects up to twice a day to the GPS network to maintain its accuracy around the world (1 second difference every 100,000 years if it remains connected to the network.) Moreover, there is no need to set the date, it is set automatically thanks to its perpetual calendar function, set to always have the right date until February 28, 2100.
The autonomy of the watch is six months on full charge, and two years if the GPS function is deactivated.
