Inspired by the protection of Antarctic penguins, this Diver's 200 "Baby Tuna" is part of the Prospex Save The Ocean collection. With its unique design and unique features, this watch is a true diver's watch!
Seiko and diving
The Japanese Manufacture Seiko is known to watch lovers as one of the most reliable and legitimate brands in the world of diving watches. Since the launch of its first diver's watch in 1965, Seiko has been dedicated to exceeding divers' expectations with its innovative technology, creating timepieces that will help you cope with deep water obstacles in a wide variety of situations around the world. These timepieces have proven to be equal to the rigours of the environment and have received praise from professional divers.
A "Baby Tuna" for the protection of penguins
Seiko has had great success with the special edition "Save the Ocean" watches, which has been growing year on year since 2018, when Seiko partnered with Fabien Cousteau, grandson of legendary explorer Jacques-Yves Cousteau. By combining the rugged styling of its most affordable dive watches with unique, textured dials, the Manufacture has managed to create one of the most popular sub-collections. This year's "Save the Ocean" is inspired by the protection of penguins in Antarctica, which is featured on the dial.
This reference SRPH77K1 uses as its base an iconic model of the Japanese brand, the Tuna. This name was given by fans of the brand because its design immediately attracts attention, thanks to its "shroud", which envelops and protects the body of the case, and which looks somewhat like a tuna can. This design was conceived for the emblematic "Tuna", reference 6159-7010 from 1975. This Save The Ocean version is a "Baby Tuna", a smaller and slightly simpler iteration of this historic model, but still retains the design philosophy.
Its steel case measures 43.2 mm in diameter and 13 mm thick. So it's not a small watch, but the unique construction of the case, with its partially hidden lugs, means that it fits very well on the wrist. The case finish is mainly brushed, with polished details on the edges. Its bezel has an excellent grip, and is protected from shocks by the shield. The black-filled diving scale allows for easy reading of the time.
Its deep blue textured dial imitates the icy environment of Antarctica and several penguin silhouettes "swim" between 6 and 11 o'clock. The hour markers and hands are coated with LumiBrite, and there is also a Hardlex crystal, slightly lower than the top of the bezel, to protect it from scratches.
Technical side
This Prospex Diver's is equipped with the Manufacture calibre 4R35 with automatic winding. It is one of the inescapable movements of the Japanese firm which is notably used in most of the brand's watches. It beats at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour and offers 42 hours of power reserve, allowing you to alternate with your other watches without having to systematically wind it. Designed to be reliable and robust, its construction is as simple as possible. On the complication side, the day is indicated in a window at four o'clock, which is very practical in everyday life!
