Montblanc 1858 Geosphere Ref. MB119286 automatic 42 mm Full Set 2019
Since the acquisition of the Minerva Manufacture in 2006, Montblanc has never ceased to impress watch lovers! This sublime 1858 Geosphere with its Worldtimer complication is much more complex than it looks.
The little story
Montblanc is well known among aesthetes for its writing instruments and leather goods, but did you know that the brand also has real watchmaking expertise? Making luxury watches in Switzerland since 1997, it acquired the historic Minerva factory in 2006, which specializes in chronograph calibers. Since then, Montblanc has been able to use more than a century of first-rate watchmaking expertise to build a complete collection of timepieces that, from top to bottom, has the potential to rival any Swiss watch brand.
Let's get to know each other
The Montblanc 1858 Geosphere was launched in 2018 to commemorate the 160th anniversary of Minerva, the historic manufacture in Villeret. This collection is inspired by the legendary Minerva professional watches of the 1920s and 1930s designed for military drill and mountain exploration. In addition to having high precision and legibility, these watches were also extremely robust even in extreme conditions.
Among all the 1858 collection, the Geosphere is the one that gets all the attention! It is a very complex watch, both visually and functionally, which offers those seeking a multi-hour display a unique option. Indeed, this watch includes a world time complication with its two rotating and domed hemispheric globes that complete a full revolution in 24 hours. The northern hemisphere at twelve o'clock rotates counterclockwise and the southern hemisphere rotates clockwise. Both are encircled by a 24 time zone scale and have a day/night indication in contrasting colors. In addition, a second time zone indication can be found at nine o'clock. Thanks to this original display of world time in both hemispheres, it is possible to know the time in any part of the world in the blink of an eye.
As you can see, this watch is a tribute to exploration, which is why there are red dots on the globes, which locate the seven peaks of the world. They are also engraved on the back of the case alongside the silhouette of the famous Mont Blanc peak, a compass and two crossed ice picks.
This watch with a black dial plays with contrast, highlighting the beige luminescent hour markers and Arabic numerals, the 1930s Montblanc logo and the cathedral hands, offering an optimal combination for enhanced legibility and authentic vintage style. All this is of course protected by a curved anti-reflective sapphire crystal!
